GREATER Western Sydney has signed the first player from its Under-18 TAC Cup side to its AFL list.

Josh Bruce, who featured at the just completed Under-18 Championships for the NSW/ACT Rams, has been signed by the club on a three year deal.

He is the seventh player signed by Team GWS, joining other recent signings Kurt Aylett, Anthony Miles, Shaun Edwards on the list.

Bruce is a key position prospect from Canberra's Eastlake football club and coach Kevin Sheedy says the zoning is important to the club's future.

“Canberra has a very rich AFL community. I think this is the start of a great future for all young footballers from the region and that they can see the very real and lasting commitment this club has to our zone,” he said.

High performance manager Alan McConnell says Bruce's great strength is his endurance running, which sets him apart from other players his size.

"There aren’t a lot of big competitive key position players that can run the lines as he can," McConnell said.

“He’s been a steady improver over the course of the season which is what has excited us. He’s not up and down, he has been consistently improving over the year.

"We believe there is considerable more improvement to come."

Sam Schulz, Mark Whiley and current NRL player Israel Folau are the other players on team GWS's list.
