AS THE start of the Toyota AFL Dream Team season approaches, AFL.com.au will provide a comment on every senior-listed player in the competition. The AFL Record's Mr Fantasy dissects Geelong's prospects, including a breakout on one player to watch closely.

For player-by-player and club-by-club Dream Team analysis, the NAB Cup AFL Record is now available for $7.

JIMMY BARTEL, MID, $482,200

Always been a gun DT player and that shouldn't change this season.

JED BEWS, DEF, $98,700
Will be given time to develop in the VFL. Not this year.

MITCH BROWN, FWD, $180,000
Still cheap and should get lots of opportunities in the seniors this season.

SHANNON BYRNES, FWD, $197,900

Had no luck with injury in 2011 after what was an impressive 2010. Averaged just 40 in five games last year, which is certainly not a true reflection of his DT ability. Gets free regularly and kicks goals when he is at his best, and is certainly worth the risk at under $200,000.  A must back-up for any forward line.

PAUL CHAPMAN, FWD/MID, $505,300
Another year averaging more than 100 and a perfect dual position player to consider. Loves the big stage.

ALLEN CHRISTENSEN, FWD/MID, $338,800
Averaged almost 70 last season and should improve even further in 2012. Consider.

JOEL COREY, MID, $456,900

Proven ball winner and despite age should enjoy another productive season.

JOSH COWAN, MID, $222,600
May find trouble cementing a permanent spot in the senior side. Risky.

MITCH DUNCAN, MID, $382,000
Classy youngster with good average last season. More expensive this year but worth the punt.

COREY ENRIGHT, DEF, $454,600
Great defensive choice again in 2011 and still playing near his best. Worth the price tag.

TOM GILLIES, DEF, $138,500

May get more senior time but probably not enough to be considered for Dream Team.

CAMERON GUTHRIE, DEF, $150,400
Cheap option and watch his efforts in NAB Cup. Should get more senior game time.

JOEL HAMLING, FWD/RUC, $98,700
Will struggle to break into this side in 2012.

TOM HAWKINS, FWD, $303,400
Had a great Grand Final but I wouldn't break down doors to choose him just yet.

SIMON HOGAN, MID, $133,600

Played just once in the seniors last season. Until he cements a spot I'd pass.

GEORGE HORLIN-SMITH, FWD, $104,200
May find it tough to break into the premiership side. Pass.

JOSH HUNT, DEF, $322,800
Averaged 65 last year and I would expect a similar result this season.

TAYLOR HUNT, DEF, $270,100

Lost his spot in the side late last year. Should get more opportunities in 2012.

STEVE JOHNSON, FWD, $530,000
Gun player and a DT star. Expensive but keeps scoring heavily.

JAMES KELLY, MID, $478,900
Super DT season in 2011 and worth a serious look at again this year.

SHANE KERSTEN, FWD, $98,700

Will struggle to get enough senior opportunities this season. Pass.

TOM LONERGAN, DEF, $217,600
Not a great DT scorer. Pass.

ANDREW MACKIE, DEF, $392,300
Average of 79 last season can be improved on further this year.  Worth the price.

LINCOLN McCARTHY, FWD, $98,700

Will ply his trade in the VFL this year.

DANIEL MENZEL, FWD, $318,300
Will miss most of the season with a knee. Pass.

STEVEN MOTLOP, FWD, $184,300

Livewire but not likely to be a big DT scorer.

JORDAN MURDOCH, FWD, $184,300
Will struggle to get lots of senior game time this year.

JAMES PODSIADLY, FWD, $363,800

Can have some big games but also capable of some stinkers. I'd pass.

MATTHEW SCARLETT, DEF, $339,000
Always averages around the 60s and will probably do so again this year.

JORDAN SCHRODER, MID, $104,200
Will probably ply his trade in the VFL for most of 2012.

JOEL SELWOOD, MID, $540,600
Expensive but always gives his all and rarely plays a bad game. Great buy.

DAWSON SIMPSON, RUC, $232,000

A few ruckman have retired from the side so should get his chance to score this season.

BILLIE SMEDTS, DEF/FWD, $104,200

Will probably spend most of his time in the VFL in 2012.

ORREN STEPHENSON, RUC, $98,700
Will need time to develop. Not this season.

MATHEW STOKES, FWD, $429,300
Solid average but also capable of some poorer performances. Worth considering.

HARRY TAYLOR, DEF, $319,200

Can get free and score big but also known to put in some low-scoring efforts. Pass.

TRAVIS VARCOE, FWD/MID, $321, 500

Silky skills but falls short of scoring big in Dream Team.

NATHAN VARDY, RUC, $234,100

Should get more opportunities this year but not likely to be a big scorer.

TRENT WEST, RUC, $338,300

Solid average last year and signs suggest he'll improve further.

DAVID WOJCINSKI, DEF, $298,600

Not a big Dream Team scorer and I'd look elsewhere.

Create a private or public head-to-head Toyota AFL Dream Team league then fill it with 18 teams before round one, and you will automatically go in the draw to win one of ten $1000 cash prizes.
