Two Blues request move

By Nathan Schmook 4:07 PM Mon 10 October, 2011

ST KILDA star Brendon Goddard will not move to Carlton in a blockbuster trade this week, according to Blues chief executive Greg Swann, with the Saints declaring on Monday that he is not available and not to be discussed.

The contracted Goddard, 26, had been linked to Carlton on day one of trade week, with the Saints dealing with salary cap pressures that they say are manageable.

Swann did reveal that uncontracted Blues Paul Bower and Setanta O'hAilpin had asked to be traded in search of more playing opportunities, and his club would be involved in some minor deals this week as a result.

Blues lock down young trio

7:20 AM Fri 23 September, 2011

CARLTON has extended the contracts of three players in a move the Blues hope will assist the club build on a successful 2011.

Tall Shaun Hampson has had his deal with the club lengthened by three years while midfielders David Ellard and Dennis Armfield have signed two-year contract extensions.

Hampson, 23, who has battled a knee injury, has played nine senior games for the Blues this year with his best effort coming in Carlton's 47-point win over Melbourne in round 10 where he collected 12 possessions and had 34 hit-outs.

Ellard, 22, has been a mainstay in the Blues' best-22 this year, playing 19 games where he has averaged 14.6 touches and 2.5 clearances a match.

Trade week: left at the gates

By staff reporters 5:03 PM Mon 11 October, 2010

ADELAIDE
The Crows were strongly linked to Carlton's Andrew Walker but no deal could be struck.

BRISBANE LIONS
West Australian natives Mitch Clark and Daniel Rich were linked with moves back home but nothing came from that and both should continue with the Lions next year.

CARLTON
Andrew Walker didn't get the clean slate he was after. Adelaide, Port Adelaide and the Western Bulldogs all expressed varying levels of interest, but he was left at the altar each time. Bret Thornton and Setanta O'hAilpin were also hoping to reignite their careers elsewhere, but couldn't find new homes.

Walker stays a Blue

By Adam McNicol 2:14 PM Mon 11 October, 2010

ANDREW Walker will remain at Carlton for the 2011 season despite his request to be traded.

The 24-year-old, who has played 103 games, held talks with Port Adelaide and the Western Bulldogs during trade week but those clubs were unable to work out a suitable deal with the Blues.

"The only way that Andrew was going to go was if Andrew could get to a location he wanted to be at," Walker's mananger Tom Petroro told afl.com.au's Trade Week Radio.

"It wasn't an issue that Andrew had to leave, so he is really happy to stay.

Geelong snares pick 15, offloads Laidler

By Mic Cullen 12:58 PM Mon 11 October, 2010

GEELONG completed two trades on the final day of the AFL's exchange period, trading defender Jeremy Laidler and NAB AFL Draft pick 41 to Carlton for draft picks 36 and 53 and trading one of its compensation picks to Gold Coast in exchange for pick 15.

Geelong gave away its middle-of-round-one compensation pick (for losing Gary Ablett to the Gold Coast as one of their eight uncontracted signings) for a chance to have an early draft selection in this year's draft.

By obtaining the pick, the Cats will now have two picks in round one of this year's draft and six in the top 60.

Homesick Jacobs a Crow

By Mic Cullen and Adam McNicol 12:45 PM Mon 11 October, 2010

HOMESICK Carlton ruckman Sam Jacobs has joined Adelaide after the Blues accepted two NAB AFL Draft picks in exchange for the 22-year-old.

Carlton will receive Adelaide's round-two pick (no.33 overall) and a round-four pick (no.67 overall).

Jacobs requested the trade back to his home state before trade week began, and the Crows said they were keen to strike a deal rather than force Jacobs, who has played just 17 games, into December's pre-season draft.

"We're very happy for Sam as he was desperately wanting to get home to Adelaide and he felt that because Carlton have four big ruckmen his opportunities there were limited," Crows football operations manager Phil Harper told afl.com.au's Trade Week Radio on Monday morning.

Crows compromise on Griffin, happy with Jacobs

By Luke Holmesby 12:34 PM Mon 11 October, 2010

ADELAIDE recruiting manager Matt Rendell says while the Crows were compromised by Jonathon Griffin's exit, it was a loss that hit any clubs with departing players.

Rendell said Gold Coast's nine first-round picks meant lower picks had greater value than previous years.

"Everyone is out 10 picks so if you've got players coming in you've got bargains, if you've got players going out and nothing coming in you are in a worse position so we're all in the same boat, everyone's out 10 picks and that is why we stuck to our guns," Rendell said when asked about the changed landscape of trade week.

Pies confident on Cloke, despite draft threat

By Jennifer Witham and Adam McNicol 12:25 PM Mon 11 October, 2010

COLLINGWOOD premiership forward Travis Cloke has threatened to enter the NAB AFL Draft if he cannot agree to terms on a new two-year contract in the next week, but the club is confident a deal will be reached soon.

The 23-year-old is out of contact and yet to commit to the club, with his manager-father David negotiating a contract extension that would lock him in until the end of 2012.

David Cloke says his son may walk out on the club if they fail to strike a deal over the next few days.
