Toovey remains a Pie

By Jennifer Witham 2:39 PM Sun 16 October, 2011

A WEEK after Alan Toovey's manager declared his client was undervalued at Collingwood and shopped him around for a larger pay packet, the premiership backman has agreed to terms on a new two-year contract.

The 24-year-old confirmed his commitment to Collingwood on Sunday.

It's another boost for the Pies after Chris Dawes re-signed this week, and Dale Thomas, Scott Pendlebury and Dane Swan during the year.

Toovey, who was elevated from the rookie list in 2007 and played in the Pies' winning Grand Final last year, said he was thrilled to remain with the club.

Great expectations for mature Marty

By Michael Whiting 5:27 PM Thu 13 October, 2011

FORMER Collingwood coach Mick Malthouse believes a more mature Marty Clarke will return to the Magpies a better player in 2012.

Clarke played 46 games for Collingwood from 2007-2009 under Malthouse, before a bout of homesickness took him back to his native Ireland to play Gaelic football for County Down.

But the Magpies lured their man back to the AFL earlier this week via a trade with Greater Western Sydney.

The trade saw Collingwood give up pick 25 in the NAB AFL National Draft in exchange for Clarke, Murray Bushrangers' junior Jamie Elliot and pick 67.

Malthouse said those people thinking Clarke might struggle with a second stint in the AFL better think again.

McConville's men on outer

By Mark Macgugan 2:04 PM Thu 13 October, 2011

COLLINGWOOD premiership player Brent Macaffer is relying on Alan Toovey being traded if he's to continue his career at the Magpies.

Just a year after playing in the winning 2010 Grand Final team, Macaffer has been told there's no room for him in Collingwood's bulging salary cap, according to his manager Anthony McConville.

McConville says the possible departure of disgruntled Toovey - whose pay demands have not been met by the Magpies for similar reasons - is the only way his 23-year-old client could stay put.

In the meantime, he's exploring other options.

Mitch Clark's trade hopes slide

By Jennifer Witham 1:04 PM Wed 12 October, 2011

MITCH Clark may struggle in his bid to be traded to a Perth club this week while John McCarthy looks increasingly unlikely to be at Collingwood next year, said their respective managers on Wednesday.

It also appears as though Hawthorn defender Rick Ladson could be on his way to Greater Western Sydney with the Giants expressing keen interest in the 27-year-old.

Clark's manager Colin Young said he was growing increasingly concerned a deal with Fremantle - Clark's preferred target - was not going to happen this week with the Brisbane Lions wanting more than the club could offer.

Not so fast

By Ashley Browne 5:54 PM Tue 11 October, 2011

SO ALAN Toovey wants out of Collingwood.

Not happy with the terms of the new agreement offered by the Magpies, Toovey is reportedly ready to walk to whichever other club offers him the $350,000 or so he is reportedly seeking.

Toovey is managed by Jim Marinis, who took the unusual step of emailing every club to let them know of his client’s availability. According to an interview on Tradeweek Radio on Tuesday, as many as eight clubs expressed some sort of interest.

Marinis is foolish if he believes that by going to the media, the Magpies are going to improve their offer.

Toovey set to walk from Magpies

By James Dampney 10:26 AM Tue 11 October, 2011

COLLINGWOOD has had to quickly move on from its Grand Final disappointment, with Alan Toovey seeking a trade to a new club this week and Andrew Krakouer chasing an improved contract.

Toovey's manager Jim Marinis has taken the unusual step of emailing all other AFL clubs, stating talks between the Magpies and Toovey "have broken down due to the parties being unable to agree on the financial terms for Alan Toovey's future contract".

The statement goes on to say if a trade can't be completed during this week's trading period, Toovey will nominate for the NAB AFL Draft.

Marinis said up to eight rival clubs had already expressed interest in Toovey who was set to move.

Davis wants to stay a Pie

By Jennifer Witham 9:51 AM Mon 10 October, 2011

TWO-TIME All Australian Leon Davis has told the club he wants to play on as a Magpie in 2012.

The 30-year-old has been weighing up his future, and as recently as Grand Final week was undecided on whether he wanted to return to his home city, Perth, or play on with the Pies for a 13th season.

But the 225 gamer told the club he wanted to stay in the black and white for at least another year.

"Leon spoke with Nathan on the weekend and he's reconfirmed he wants to stay and play with Collingwood, so that's great," Collingwood football manager Geoff Walsh said on Monday morning.

Dawes to stay with Magpies

By Jason Phelan 2:44 PM Mon 26 September, 2011

COLLINGWOOD'S Chris Dawes is set to remain in black and white with the key forward on the verge of signing a new deal with the club.

Dawes, 23, is out of contract at the end of the season and has been the subject of intense trade speculation, but he was keen to lay the matter to rest when asked about possibly ending his time at the club with a premiership on Saturday.

"The premiership team is always going to change each year in terms of personnel, [but] I'll be here next year, which I'm looking forward to," Dawes said.

Trade week: left at the gates

By staff reporters 5:03 PM Mon 11 October, 2010

ADELAIDE
The Crows were strongly linked to Carlton's Andrew Walker but no deal could be struck.

BRISBANE LIONS
West Australian natives Mitch Clark and Daniel Rich were linked with moves back home but nothing came from that and both should continue with the Lions next year.

CARLTON
Andrew Walker didn't get the clean slate he was after. Adelaide, Port Adelaide and the Western Bulldogs all expressed varying levels of interest, but he was left at the altar each time. Bret Thornton and Setanta O'hAilpin were also hoping to reignite their careers elsewhere, but couldn't find new homes.
