Dons shank Caddy shot

By Callum Twomey 3:02 PM Mon 17 October, 2011

ESSENDON says if it had known earlier that the Gold Coast would only accept a top-10 pick for midfielder Josh Caddy then it might have been able to secure the deal.

The Bombers' push for the 19-year-old fell short on Monday despite an AFL mediator being brought into the equation to help form a fair result for both clubs.

Essendon CEO Ian Robson said the club was disappointed its combinations of offers - all including its pick 19 in the NAB AFL Draft - were knocked back by the Suns.

"We're really disappointed," Robson said.

Bombers set sights on Caddy

By Mark Macgugan 6:28 PM Fri 14 October, 2011

ESSENDON is believed to have launched a bid to lure Gold Coast midfielder Josh Caddy back to his home state.

The Bombers hope to trade for the Brisbane Lions' end of round one compensation pick, received last year for the loss of Michael Rischitelli to the Suns.

They would then offer that selection, plus their first round pick (No. 19) in the 2011 NAB AFL Draft, to Gold Coast in exchange for Caddy.

Essendon assistant coach Mark Thompson alluded to the proposed trade at the launch of the club's sponsorship deal with Kia Motors on Friday.

"We're just trying to go under the radar and get something done quietly," Thompson said.

Mitch Clark's trade hopes slide

By Jennifer Witham 1:04 PM Wed 12 October, 2011

MITCH Clark may struggle in his bid to be traded to a Perth club this week while John McCarthy looks increasingly unlikely to be at Collingwood next year, said their respective managers on Wednesday.

It also appears as though Hawthorn defender Rick Ladson could be on his way to Greater Western Sydney with the Giants expressing keen interest in the 27-year-old.

Clark's manager Colin Young said he was growing increasingly concerned a deal with Fremantle - Clark's preferred target - was not going to happen this week with the Brisbane Lions wanting more than the club could offer.

Dons re-sign two

By Callum Twomey 2:36 PM Mon 10 October, 2011

JUST days after winning Essendon's best and fairest, Bomber David Zaharakis has signed a three-year contract extension with the club.

The classy 21-year-old midfielder was already contracted for the 2012 season, with the new deal seeing him remain at the club until the end of the 2014 season.

The club announced on Monday that speedy midfielder Travis Colyer, 20, has also recommitted to the Bombers, with a new two-year deal tying him to Essendon until the end of the 2013 season.

Essendon football manager Paul Hamilton said the club was pleased to secure the pair’s services.

Hardingham commits

By Callum Twomey 10:35 AM Thu 06 October, 2011

ESSENDON defender Kyle Hardingham has signed a new two-year deal with the club, tying him to the Bombers until the end of 2013.

The 23-year-old confirmed the news on Thursday via Twitter: "Hope all supporters can put up with me for another 2 years as (I) re-signed today."

Hardingham was selected by the Bombers with pick seven in the 2010 NAB AFL Pre-Season Draft.

He made his senior debut with a high-flying four-goal performance against North Melbourne in round 17, 2010, but only played six matches for the season.

Trade week: left at the gates

By staff reporters 5:03 PM Mon 11 October, 2010

ADELAIDE
The Crows were strongly linked to Carlton's Andrew Walker but no deal could be struck.

BRISBANE LIONS
West Australian natives Mitch Clark and Daniel Rich were linked with moves back home but nothing came from that and both should continue with the Lions next year.

CARLTON
Andrew Walker didn't get the clean slate he was after. Adelaide, Port Adelaide and the Western Bulldogs all expressed varying levels of interest, but he was left at the altar each time. Bret Thornton and Setanta O'hAilpin were also hoping to reignite their careers elsewhere, but couldn't find new homes.

Bombers couldn't match Houli offer

By Jennifer Witham and Nathan Schmook 4:20 PM Mon 11 October, 2010

ESSENDON says it was unable to match the significant contract offer Richmond put to midfielder Bachar Houli and the Bombers now appear certain to lose the 22-year-old for nothing.

Houli will attempt to make his way to Punt Road via either the NAB AFL Draft or the pre-season draft after the Bombers and Tigers failed to negotiate a suitable exchange during trade week.

Essendon football manager Paul Hamilton said Houli had indicated he intends to leave Essendon with the Tigers offering him more than the Bombers "could or would".

"Bachar has made it very clear that he wants to leave and I know there has been a lot of conjecture as to why," Hamilton told essendonfc.com.au.

Trade winds: Tarrant in limbo on a busy Blue day

By Michael Rogers 8:07 AM Mon 11 October, 2010

A STALEMATE between Fremantle and Collingwood over Chris Tarrant looms as the key deal on the last day of trade week, which concludes at 2pm on Monday.

Fremantle is looking for a NAB AFL Draft selection inside the top 50 for defender Tarrant, who is set on a move to Collingwood. However, The Age reported that the Magpies' pick 55, which was obtained from Freo as part of the Andrew Krakouer deal, could form part of an acceptable exchange.

The Herald Sun has a different take on the impasse, reporting that Fremantle wants Collingwood's second-round pick but the Magpies will only give up their fourth-rounder.

Both Melbourne papers report that Carlton looks set to be active on the final day trading.
