Demons get their man

By Luke Holmesby 12:14 PM Mon 17 October, 2011

MITCH Clark's AFL future has been one of the great unknowns throughout 2011. And even when it was seemingly confirmed, there was still another late twist to come.

Over the past three years Clark has become one of the Lions most important players for his contribution as a ruck/forward.

His growing stature in the game meant that his next contract was going to be a big one and he had more choice than ever over his own destiny.

But there were doubts about how long he would stay in Brisbane as he delayed contract talks with the club.

Demons pull off trade coup

By Michael Tormey 11:53 PM Sat 15 October, 2011

FORMER Brisbane Lion Mitch Clark has made an extraordinary about-face, agreeing to join Melbourne just a day after telling the football world via a Fremantle media release that he was only interested in heading west.

The Demons have swapped their first round NAB AFL Draft selection (No.12 overall) for the ruckman/forward in the most intriguing deal of the player exchange period.

Melbourne said via its Twitter account late on Saturday night that Clark would join the club on a four-year contract.

Although it is unclear whether the rumoured deal of $2.2 million over four years is accurate, Clark's original suitor Fremantle released a statement just before midnight (AEST) on Saturday saying it could not outbid Melbourne for his services.

Get me to Fremantle: Clark

By Michael Whiting 8:56 PM Fri 14 October, 2011

BRISBANE Lion Mitch Clark has taken the extraordinary step of notifying the football world via a statement released by Fremantle that he only wants to be traded to Freo.

After six seasons in Brisbane, Clark requested a trade back to his home state Western Australia - preferably to Fremantle - but the two clubs have so far failed to come up with a suitable deal for both parties.

That prompted Melbourne to pitch a multi-million dollar bid - estimated to be up to $2.2 million over four years - for the agile ruckman/forward on Wednesday night.

Despite admitting it was a tempting offer, Clark said he was adamant he wanted to head to Fremantle.

Roos likely to secure Dees' Maric

By Mark Macgugan 8:57 AM Thu 13 October, 2011

MELBOURNE is likely to trade Addam Maric to North Melbourne.

Demons list manager Tim Harrington said the club had held "fruitful" discussions with North about the 21-year-old, who has played 21 games and booted 15 goals since his AFL debut in 2008.

"Addam has indicated that he would like to go there," Harrington told Melbourne radio station SEN 1116 on Thursday morning.

"North are a good club to deal with, so I reckon we'll be able to do a deal there that satisfies us both."

Harrington wouldn't reveal what Melbourne was asking for in return for Maric, or what the Kangaroos had offered up in initial negotiations.

Trade week: left at the gates

By staff reporters 5:03 PM Mon 11 October, 2010

ADELAIDE
The Crows were strongly linked to Carlton's Andrew Walker but no deal could be struck.

BRISBANE LIONS
West Australian natives Mitch Clark and Daniel Rich were linked with moves back home but nothing came from that and both should continue with the Lions next year.

CARLTON
Andrew Walker didn't get the clean slate he was after. Adelaide, Port Adelaide and the Western Bulldogs all expressed varying levels of interest, but he was left at the altar each time. Bret Thornton and Setanta O'hAilpin were also hoping to reignite their careers elsewhere, but couldn't find new homes.

ADELAIDE
Trades confirmed:
Richard Tambling (Richmond) for Adelaide's end-of-first round compensation for losing Nathan Bock, and a third-round draft selection (No.50).
On the table: Jon Griffin is seeking a return home to Western Australia to be closer to his ill father and the Crows are confident they can get a deal done with Fremantle.
Targets: Carlton ruckman Sam Jacobs has requested a trade to Adelaide but the Blues are playing hardball, demanding a first-round draft pick for the uncontracted South Australian. Jacobs has indicated he'll go into the NAB AFL Pre-Season Draft if an agreement between the two clubs can't be reached in the exchange period.

Trade winds: two clubs fight it out for Hale

By Adam McNicol 7:22 AM Fri 08 October, 2010

THE BATTLE between Hawthorn and Melbourne to win the services of contracted North Melbourne big man David Hale is dominating discussions in the newspapers as the clubs prepare for day four of trade week.

The Age and Herald Sun are reporting that Hawthorn has edged ahead of Melbourne in the race for the 26-year-old.

Both papers say the Hawks have offered up the compensatory pick they were granted for losing Campbell Brown to Gold Coast, while the Demons are only offering their second-round selection (No.32).

They are also reporting that Carlton's Andrew Walker could be on his way to Port Adelaide after expressing an interest in joining the Power.
