Cornes steps into next chapter

By Nathan Schmook 5:54 PM Mon 17 October, 2011

PORT Adelaide premiership hero Chad Cornes says he leaves the Power on good terms after a final-day trade was arranged to send the 32-year-old to Greater Western Sydney, where he will extend his AFL career into a 15th season.

In a deal that leaves Port Adelaide open to future Greater Western Sydney raids on its uncontracted players, Cornes and fellow Power veteran Dean Brogan were packaged with NAB AFL Draft selection No.69 and sent to the Giants on Monday in exchange for pick No.49.

Brogan and Cornes were unlikely to be drafted by the Giants if Port Adelaide refused a trade, as it would have stopped the expansion club from signing uncontracted Power players next year.

Power vulnerable, but satisfied

By Jennifer Witham 11:12 AM Mon 17 October, 2011

PORT Adelaide has conceded it has left itself open for raids on its uncontracted players at the end of 2012 after opting to deal with Greater Western Sydney for veterans Chad Cornes and Dean Brogan.

The Power traded the pair and NAB AFL Draft selection No.69 to the Giants for pick No.49 on Monday, hours before the trade week deadline of 2pm.

They did so with the knowledge the Giants can now make an approach to any uncontracted player next season under their list establishment rules after deciding not to push the new club to take either player using that process.

Trade Watch

How things change
When Ivan Maric was selected after John Meesen in the third round of the 2004 NAB AFL Draft, the pair was heralded as the Crows' ruck tandem for the next decade, but times have certainly changed. Meesen has been out of the AFL for two years and Maric was traded to Richmond on Friday.

Maric fell behind Sam Jacobs in the pecking order at Adelaide and the Adelaide Advertiser reports the Crows' big man was sent to his preferred destination at Punt Road where he will be the No.1 ruckman.

Power excited by ruck combination

By Michael Whiting 4:02 PM Fri 14 October, 2011

PORT Adelaide expects new ruck signing Brent Renouf to be a perfect foil for emerging big man Matthew Lobbe next season.

Power football operations manager Peter Rohde said opting for the Hawks' premiership player was a tough call after also considering Sydney Swan Mark Seaby.

Rohde also confirmed Port Adelaide was "very close" to getting a deal done that would see Brad Ebert join the Power from West Coast.

But it was Renouf he was most happy with, the Power securing him in exchange for pick no.33 in this year's NAB AFL National Draft.

Renouf heads to Port

By Mark Macgugan 2:59 PM Fri 14 October, 2011

PORT Adelaide has secured 2008 premiership ruckman Brent Renouf from Hawthorn, in exchange for pick 33 in this year's NAB AFL Draft.

Renouf played 52 games for the Hawks after debuting in 2008, but managed only seven senior games in 2011 after surgery to remove his gall bladder.

His best performance this season was against the Power at AAMI Stadium in round seven, when he booted three goals.

In announcing the trade, Port Adelaide football operations manager Peter Rohde described the 23-year-old as an "elite runner".

"Brent fits exactly into the age profile that we are building our next premiership team around," Rohde said.

Ebert talks progressing well

By Jennifer Witham 4:45 PM Mon 10 October, 2011

TRADE negotiations between West Coast and Port Adelaide regarding Brad Ebert have progressed slightly, but the Eagles say the Power need to increase their offer if they're to snare the former first-round draft selection.

The Power remain confident they can get the 21-year-old back to his native state of South Australia and into his preferred teal strip, but the Eagles are not interested in any of the players - or draft picks - they have offered so far.

West Coast football operations manager Neale Daniher said Ebert was recruited at No.13 overall in the 2007 NAB AFL Draft and the club was after an impressive return.

Ebert seeks trade to Port

By Mark Conway 7:41 PM Tue 04 October, 2011

WEST Coast midfielder Brad Ebert has requested a trade to Port Adelaide.

Ebert wants to return to his native South Australia and has specified the Power, a club with a long family history, as his preferred home.

Ebert's cousin Brad is a 150-game player for Port Adelaide while father Craig and uncle and AFL Hall of Fame member Russell Ebert also boast strong ties to the club.

"It's very disappointing [to lose Brad]," West Coast football operations manager Neale Daniher said. "We have put a lot of time into developing Brad and considered him an important player in our future plans.

Power recruit's big break

By Katrina Gill 2:18 PM Tue 12 October, 2010

SIMON Phillips cut a forlorn figure on the Norwood bench late in the last quarter of the SANFL decider against Central District two weeks ago.

His side was moments away from tasting a bitter defeat, having blown an early three-goal lead and he was preparing for a stay in hospital to have multiple fractures in his jaw repaired.

In the wake of the match the 23-year-old's phone was running hot with people offering their commiserations on the loss and text messages from concerned family and friends who had witnessed the heavy bump from Central's star Ian Callinan that forced him from the ground nursing his jaw.

Trade week: left at the gates

By staff reporters 5:03 PM Mon 11 October, 2010

ADELAIDE
The Crows were strongly linked to Carlton's Andrew Walker but no deal could be struck.

BRISBANE LIONS
West Australian natives Mitch Clark and Daniel Rich were linked with moves back home but nothing came from that and both should continue with the Lions next year.

CARLTON
Andrew Walker didn't get the clean slate he was after. Adelaide, Port Adelaide and the Western Bulldogs all expressed varying levels of interest, but he was left at the altar each time. Bret Thornton and Setanta O'hAilpin were also hoping to reignite their careers elsewhere, but couldn't find new homes.
