Giants poach one more

By Luke Holmesby 2:43 PM Thu 13 October, 2011

BULLDOG Sam Reid has joined Greater Western Sydney as the club's last uncontracted player.

The Giants had already signed Demon Tom Scully, Crow Phil Davis, Fremantle's Rhys Palmer and Reid's former teammate Callan Ward under the rule that allows them one uncontracted player from each club.

The Giants were permitted to sign Reid as well as his former housemate Ward after the Bulldogs granted them permission.

The AFL will now compensate the Bulldogs according to one of five classifications of players.

They received one first-round pick for losing Ward but will likely receive a lower pick for Reid.

Reid and Ward were both drafted by the Bulldogs in the 2007 NAB AFL Draft and debuted the following year.

Eagles deal almost over the Hill

By Mark Macgugan 11:33 AM Wed 12 October, 2011

WESTERN Bulldogs forward Josh Hill looks set to find a new home at West Coast.

After a failed trade attempt with Hawthorn at the end of last year, Hill endured a disappointing season in 2011, playing only 12 games and booting five goals.

His manager Peter Lenton said discussions with the Eagles had been positive.

"West Coast haven't given us an absolute definite that they will go hard for Josh," Lenton told afl.com.au's Trade Week Radio on Wednesday morning.

"We have had a meeting with them though, and they seem comfortable with it…and Josh has put his hand up and said, 'if you want me, I'd be happy to go'."

Dogs re-sign skipper and Cross

9:31 AM Wed 28 September, 2011

THE Western Bulldogs have re-signed ball-magnets Matthew Boyd and Daniel Cross

First-year captain Boyd placed equal third in Monday night's Brownlow medal count with 24 votes.

General Manager of Football James Fantasia told the club's website the club was thrilled to re-sign the stalwarts.

"It's a great result for all parties and a just reward for both players who have been outstanding for the club in recent years," Fantasia said.

Boyd had another brilliant season, leading the AFL in disposals, contested possessions and clearances to receive a second All Australian selection.

Dogs' culture attracts Sherman

By Jennifer Witham 11:00 AM Wed 13 October, 2010

WESTERN Bulldogs recruit Justin Sherman believes he can become a consistent performer at his new club because of a solid culture and continuity with his role.

Sherman, 23, was traded to the Dogs on Monday after requesting a move to Whitten Oval from the Brisbane Lions.

He decided to pursue a future with the Melbourne-based club because he was tired of the inconsistency he felt he was being steered towards.

"Having good years and mediocre years, I could no longer live that sort of rollercoaster lifestyle," Sherman said after arriving in Melbourne on Wednesday morning.

Trade week: left at the gates

By staff reporters 5:03 PM Mon 11 October, 2010

ADELAIDE
The Crows were strongly linked to Carlton's Andrew Walker but no deal could be struck.

BRISBANE LIONS
West Australian natives Mitch Clark and Daniel Rich were linked with moves back home but nothing came from that and both should continue with the Lions next year.

CARLTON
Andrew Walker didn't get the clean slate he was after. Adelaide, Port Adelaide and the Western Bulldogs all expressed varying levels of interest, but he was left at the altar each time. Bret Thornton and Setanta O'hAilpin were also hoping to reignite their careers elsewhere, but couldn't find new homes.

Walker stays a Blue

By Adam McNicol 2:14 PM Mon 11 October, 2010

ANDREW Walker will remain at Carlton for the 2011 season despite his request to be traded.

The 24-year-old, who has played 103 games, held talks with Port Adelaide and the Western Bulldogs during trade week but those clubs were unable to work out a suitable deal with the Blues.

"The only way that Andrew was going to go was if Andrew could get to a location he wanted to be at," Walker's mananger Tom Petroro told afl.com.au's Trade Week Radio.

"It wasn't an issue that Andrew had to leave, so he is really happy to stay.

Bulldogs to rejuvenate Sherman

By Adam McNicol 12:54 PM Mon 11 October, 2010

WESTERN Bulldogs recruit Justin Sherman has admitted he didn't enjoy playing football in his last two seasons at the Brisbane Lions.

The 23-year-old is headed for Whitten Oval after being traded for the end-of-first-round compensation pick the Bulldogs acquired when they lost Jarrod Harbrow to Gold Coast.

"For me it was always an individual feeling that I had that I could no longer be at the Lions and give my 100 per cent commitment every week," Sherman told afl.com.au's Trade Week Radio shortly after the paperwork to make the deal official was lodged with the League.

Lion Sherman now a Dog

By Mark Macgugan 10:50 AM Mon 11 October, 2010

BRISBANE Lion Justin Sherman will get his wish to join the Western Bulldogs.

Sherman’s manager Liam Pickering told Trade Week Radio on afl.com.au on Sunday that an in-principle agreement had been reached between the two clubs, and the deal was confirmed on Monday morning.

In exchange for the hard-running midfielder, the Lions will get the end-of-first-round compensation pick the Bulldogs received for the loss of Jarrod Harbrow to the Gold Coast.

"It hasn’t been done officially, but we’re going to meet tomorrow morning ... and we’ll get the paperwork lodged. We’ve got an in-principle agreement," Pickering said on Sunday.
