FREMANTLE is planning to speak with St Kilda, Geelong and Hawthorn about their potential interest in disgruntled pair Brett Peake and Marcus Drum but has no plans to find a new home for Chris Tarrant.
Though Freo has reiterated that Tarrant will see out the final year of his contract, speculation surrounding the 29-year-old's hopes of returning to his native Victoria has continued ahead of next week's exchange period.
Coach Mark Harvey said his club's trade week activities would focus on Peake and Drum's desire to head to a Victorian club.
"We've got a couple of other players there who are going to move on in Peake and Drum," he told afl.com.au. "We'll probably concentrate on those two guys and see what happens.
"It depends on the fallout of other clubs and what those clubs throw up from a playing aspect that we might be interested in."
Harvey said he was yet to speak in detail with the Saints, Cats or Hawks about possible deals but saw that bigger names such as Brendan Fevola and Shaun Burgoyne would dominate discussions early next week anyway.
"Peake is maybe heading towards St Kilda and Drum has been mentioned with Hawthorn and Geelong," he confirmed. "You never really know until the opening of trade week on Monday.
"There is a lot of talk going on at the moment [and] there are a lot of bigger deals to be done. Fevola has all of a sudden come to the fore as well as Burgoyne. They tend to take up a lot of time at trade week."
And Harvey severed any link between his club and Fevola, who has recently fallen out of favour at the Blues.
"[He's] not for us," he said. "We're more in a building mode.
"He's certainly a great player and I'm sure there will be a few clubs looking at him quite seriously or he'll finish up staying at Carlton."
Does anyone know about Marcus Drum . 191 cm and taken about top in the draft. I think he has had a few injuries and could not break into the Freo side last year. Is he a good contested mark ? Can he play good inside footy ?Can he hit targets? Geelong should trade Varcoe for Drum and even Blake. Blake needs to be traded. He was very lucky to play in the GF and simply doesn't do enough around the ground.
Peake for fev haha most hilarious thing I have ever heard.
Nathan - Peake wil not be traded for fisher because Fisher is a quality player at saints and they won't want to get rid of him.
Be nice to the kid but the trades don't make sense but Peake will go to Saints and Drum to Hawks
Fev to stay a Blue, Burgoyne to Essendon or even Melbourne, Drum to Hawthorn and Lewis to stay a Hawk.
Fevola for Bradshaw, I don't think so. We don't wont him up here, he is brainless. Trade him for Braddy, how many memberships would that cost!!!!!!!
Are you being serious brandon??? None of your three trades have any merit at all.Collingwood have a pretty solid defensive group and don't really need Tarrant at either end. They also managed to get way more out of Medhurst than what Fremantle could so they'll put it down to a bad year and hope he bounces back. Fremantle are rebuilding so they only want picks not players anyway.Drum for lovett is far from a fair swap, Lovett can be a match winner and while Drum has potential as a defender he hasn't delivered so far. Then there is your Peake for Fev trade. On what planet is that trade fair???
A trade I'd like to see done at Adelaide; Nathen Van Berlo & Jonothon Griffen, traded to Freo for Freo's 1st & 4th round draft pick.
I reckon that Chris Tarrant will get traded for Paul Medhurst(but will Medhurst want to go back to the club he started at IF he started his career at Freo), Marcus Drum will go to Essendon for Lovett, Peake will go to Carlton For Fevola
im a hawthorn supporter and i havent seen much of Marcus Drum.does anyone know anything about him and if he would be worth picking up as a key defender.i no hes like 193cm's or something but is he any good ?
Nathan, agree with you line of thinking. I'd certainly not trade Luke Ball. There's no guaranteed uplift & he's still an important part of midfield rotations. If Peake can be collected for even an early pick OK, but unless Leigh Fisher has permanently lost his pace (post-hamstring) then I'd look at keeping him too.
i think peake will head to stkilda for a late draft pick and maybe leigh fisherand it surpirise me if fremantle want ball in that trade but i think it would be smart for saints to keep ball he a true leader!
