Essendon's Mark McVeigh has apologised and accepted a $900 fine for making an obscene gesture to the crowd during the match against St Kilda at Telstra Dome on Saturday.
"I want to apologise for my actions. No matter how frustrated or annoyed I might have been, what I did was inexcusable," McVeigh said in a statement.
"I have a responsibility as a role model and it is a responsibility I take very seriously. I have let myself, the club and our supporters down."
The match review panel assessed incidents involving Collingwood and Essendon players this weekend earlier than usual so they can be dealt with before Wednesday's Anzac Day match. It charged him with making an obscene gesture. Because it was his first offence and he took an early plea, the fine was $900.
The panel dismissed the match day report laid against Collingwood's Anthony Rocca.
The panel said that Rocca made contact with Domenic Cassisi's shoulder when he bumped the Port Adelaide player but there was no contact to the head and the contact did not seem excessive in the circumstances. As such, no further action was required.
All other incidents from the weekend's matches will be assessed on Monday as usual.
