Japan Australian Football League (JAFL)

JAFL

Formed

1992

Australian Football has been played in Japanese universities for over 15 years since 1987 when the AFL sent an exhibition match to Tokyo. Our aims are to publicize and promote Australian Football in Japan. JAFA is proud of its accomplishment in a decade of football with over 200 players of which 75% are Japanese nationals who don’t even speak English.

Football is now being taught in Primary schools and kindergartens in many parts of Japan. We now have many members and are always looking for more. Membership is open to all, men and women, and not restricted in any way. At present a women’s league is being developed. As well as Japanese nationals, our members include ex-pats from Europe, North America, and other Asian countries too.

Australian Football is growing at a rapid pace in Japan and it should not be too long before International AFL scouts are checking out a ‘Plugger Yamazake’ or ‘Speedy Suzuki’!! Watch out for them!
