ST KILDA defender Sam Fisher appears to have shaken off his hamstring problem and should be fit to take on Geelong in Friday night’s qualifying final at the MCG.

Fisher looked to be moving well during the early stages of the Saints’ training run at Moorabbin on Wednesday afternoon, as did Stephen Milne and Adam Schneider, who were rested from last weekend’s trip to Adelaide.

Steven Baker also took part in the session, and his teammates have backed his ability to have an impact against the Cats, even though the tagger has not played for nine weeks due to suspension.

“We really do need him in our team," Schneider said prior to the training session. "He’s such a great player and he’s pretty important to us.

“If we can get him back out there and he can do a job for us I’m sure it will help us in the end of the game.”

Baker’s last outing was against Geelong in round 13, but he has been subjected to a heavy training load in recent weeks.

“Steve’s one of those who gives everything on the track. He’s been training really, really hard,” Schneider added.

“He shows, the way he plays his footy, that once he’s out there he’s just focused on his job and he’s so driven to get the job done.

“He’s one of those addictive personalities and once he gets out on the field he’ll make sure nothing beats him.”

The loser of Friday night’s qualifying final will host the winner of the Fremantle versus Hawthorn clash.

That said, the Saints are trying not to look too far ahead.

“There’s always going to be what ifs in footy, but we’re all about concentrating on preparing for this game and we haven’t even talked about next week.”
