Pies not daunted by Hawk forwards: Brown

COLLINGWOOD defender Nathan Brown believes the accuracy of Hawthorn's forward line will have little effect on Saturday's game if the Pies can apply their famous pressure across the ground.

Brown, 19, considers the Magpies' renowned level of intensity and amount of duress they can place on their opponents as the weapon they need to attack Lance 'Buddy' Franklin, Jarryd Roughead, Cyril Rioli and Mark Williams.

"With the backs, forward and the mids, it's about the amount of pressure we can put on Hawthorn," Brown said.

"I think that's the way we're going to try and beat them. We'll find out soon enough."

The young defender, who has featured in every game this year, isn't anticipating the Hawks' attacking structure to possess depleted confidence after a weekend where the side kicked 22 behinds.

"I think every player from every team has one of those weeks. It just either happens or it doesn't," he said.

"The main thing was, they were still getting those shots on goal, which we've got to obviously stop.

"Their forward line is going really well at the moment. One kicked eight one week and the next, the other one kicked a bag.

"They've got a few hot targets down there. I think it will always be a difficult game for our backs to control their forward line, but I think we've just got to stick to our game plan and our guns, and have a fair crack."

Having lined up on players such as Matthew Pavlich, Jonathan Brown, Matthew Richardson, Aaron Edwards and Matthew Lloyd this year, Brown could be considered to face the talented left-foot superstar 'Buddy'.

But, he isn't getting ahead of himself just yet, with a team meeting later in the week set to determine just who from the Hawks' goal-kicking stable he'll line up on.

"I'd love the chance but we've also got Harry O'Brien and Shane Wakelin, who are probably in the best form of their careers," he said.

"Any one of us could get the job, but I'm quite happy to just be a part of it and be part of the Collingwood team."
