COLLINGWOOD has picked up Brisbane Lion Anthony Corrie for a bargain-basement pick 93 in a trade week shock at Telstra Dome this morning.

The Magpies pick is actually a sixth-round selection, a rarely used commodity in past seasons.

Corrie, 24, played 20 games this year for a career tally of 53 and formed an exciting combination with fellow indigenous player, Rhan Hooper.

Brisbane Lions’ football manager Graeme Allan has revealed that the club was going to delist Corrie but felt it was the right thing to do to find the 24-year-old a new club during the trade period.

Corrie was traded to Collingwood for a bargain-basement pick 93 sixth round selection, which Allan admitted that the club would probably not even use during the draft.

“The Brisbane Lions were going to delist Anthony Corrie,” Allan said.

“We were happy that we were able to find him another club without him going through the angst of the national and pre-season draft. Selection 93 is a selection we probably will not use but we thought it only fair to do the right thing by a now former player who is a very good human being.”

The planned delisting and subsequent trade comes as a shock after a season which saw Corrie play 20 games for a career tally of 53. The 2005 AFL Rising Star nominee returned to the Lions senior list in 2008 after spending 2007 as a rookie having missed the entire season bar two games due to a knee reconstruction.
