Williams future at Alberton unsure

PORT Adelaide coach Mark Williams says he doesn't know if the club will renew his contract for the 2010 season and beyond.

Williams is set to find out his fate this week after a clause in his contract stipulates he must know his future before the end of the 2009 season concludes.

"I'm really unsure exactly the way that the club will decide," Williams said post-match after his side's 34-point loss to Geelong at Skilled Stadium on Sunday.

"They'll work that out in the next couple of days, I'm sure."

Williams also hinted he would also consider his future even if the club decides to give him a new deal.

"I won't be negotiating my contract here at the moment," he said.

"My first and foremost thing would be to decide whether I'm going to be here or not and then after that, we'll see what happens."

Williams would not be drawn into whether the club's tight financial situation – personally or collectively for staff and football resources – would play a part in his decision.

"I think history will show that the club has been under budgetary restraints – always, our club has. We're not paying much of the salary cap this year that's for sure," he said.

"The ability to bring new people in and new resources in is difficult and the AFL and the SANFL has granted us some leeway this year, with some of their funding.

"We're very much aware of that's how we are and we have to battle through it. Having said all of that, no one really cares – just win."
