BOOM VFL recruit Michael Barlow has been rewarded for a superb first pre-season with elevation onto Fremantle's senior list for the entire 2010 campaign as seven clubs named rookies eligible to play senior football at any time this season.

Fremantle was able to nominate one rookie for elevation ahead of today's 2pm AEDT deadline, with Barlow edging midfield hopeful Matt de Boer, who played 17 games in his debut 2009 season.

Barlow, 22, has played all four pre-season matches and has flourished ever since being thrown into the midfield against Melbourne in Fremantle's NAB Cup opener.

He said earning a spot on an AFL list had been a long time coming and he was going to make the most of his chance.

"Coming in the back way into the AFL system I've trained at two other clubs, St Kilda at the end of 2007 and Essendon this year," he said from Fremantle's season launch on Monday night.

"I really drew a lot of good experiences from them and it's what I've wanted to do ever since I trained at St Kilda.

"Now that I'm here I'm going to make the most of it."

Barlow won the Fothergill-Round Medal as the VFL's best young player in 2009, averaging 30 possessions a game with Werribee and winning the club's best and fairest award.

He has been a prolific ball-winner this pre-season, notching 29 possessions against Melbourne and 27 against North Melbourne. He was also among his side's best players against St Kilda and Geelong.

With Dean Solomon retiring and Scott Thornton, Tim Ruffles and Antoni Grover all on the long-term injury list, Fremantle has another four senior list spots available for rookie elevations.

Clancee Pearce (eight games), Jay van Berlo (four) and de Boer (17) all played senior football in 2009, while Alex Silvagni, 22, has also impressed this pre-season since being recruited from VFL club Casey Scorpions.

Clubs are eligible to nominate rookie players eligible to play senior football at any time during the season if they have 38 players on their list, not including veterans, and they can satisfy total player payments requirements.

Nominated players along with Barlow are Jeff Garlett (Carlton), Ben Howlett (Essendon), Garry Moss (Hawthorn), Ben Speight (North Melbourne), Graham Polak and Relton Roberts (Richmond) and Will Sullivan (West Coast).
