Etihad Stadium is a state-of-the-art venue located in the developing Docklands precinct. The stadium was opened in 2000 with the inaugural match between Essendon and Port Adelaide drawing 43,012 spectators. Etihad Stadium has also hosted International Cricket, A-League, NRL and Rugbu Union matches as well as other world-class sporting and entertainment events.

Etihad Stadium

Situated in the Docklands precinct just west of Melbourne’s central business district, Etihad Stadium is well served by public transport. The ground is next to Southern Cross railway station – the main hub for country trains and part of the City Loop network. Two pedestrian walkways have been built across the rail yards, giving fans direct access.

The Docklands precinct is constantly undergoing significant development and access to the ground has been geared towards public transport and extensive car parking facilities under and around the stadium.

Trains

Southern Cross railway station is part of the City Loop network and the departure point for country and interstate trains. You can catch trains to anywhere in metropolitan Melbourne or throughout Victoria and the ground is only five minutes walk away. From Southern Cross you only need to travel one stop to Melbourne’s famous Flinders Street railway station.

Trams

Trams run to Etihad Stadium from La Trobe Street and Harbour Esplanade.Trams also stop in the CBD on Spencer Street, Bourke Street and Collins Street and all are a short walk to Etihad Stadium. The free City Circle tourist tram service was extended in January 2003 to run along Harbour Esplanade, linking La Trobe and Flinders Streets. Trams run every 12 minutes during business hours on weekdays. Various trams also operate on Spencer Street so commuters can disembark and walk across the pedestrian walkways.

Buses

The bus terminus is at Southern Cross Train Station and services airport transfers as well as routes across country Victoria. Etihad Stadium is a short walk across the Bourke Street pedestrian footbridge from the bus terminus.

By Car

Etihad Stadium is accessible from the south via the George Grimes bridge and Wurundjeri Way, from the west via Footscray Road, and from the city via La Trobe and Collins Streets. The Collins street overpass provides direct access to the carparks within Etihad Stadium and the Docklands precinct.

There are many and varied options within Etihad Stadium for wining and dining including restaurants, cafes, bars and nightclubs. Livewire is located over two levels inside the stadium and features the Locker Room, EJ Whitten Bar, Concourse Cafe, Victory Promenade and BBQ, Arena View Restaurant and the Captain's Bar and Bistro.

Within walking distance of Etihad Stadium, the burgeoning North Quay precinct alongside Victoria Harbour offers a wide range of bars, clubs and restaurants with something to cater for every taste and budget.

Just a short walk to the central business district, there’s a good range of restaurants, cafes and pubs on Spencer and King Streets.
