The SCG was officially opened in its current form in 1886, but sport has been played in its vicinity for many more years than that. It is currently undergoing another revamp, which began in August 2007.
Sydney Swans first played on the ground in 1982, when 15,764 spectators saw them defeat Melbourne by 29 points.
The SCG has witnessed some fine moments in Australian Football history, and has a record crowd for the sport of 46,168, who came to see the Swans play Geelong in August 1997.
The ground is a 15-minute walk from Central station, which is arguably Sydney's most accessible station. Trains from all destinations make regular stops at Central. Visit the CityRail website for full timetables.
Several routes run close to the Moore Park area, with shuttles often offered from Central Station on game days. Visit Sydney Buses for more detailed information.
