BROWNLOW medallist Trent Cotchin will be unavailable for the AFLX tournament after revealing his training program has been managed this pre-season.

Cotchin, who turns 29 in April, has lined up in 220 career games for Richmond.

Despite his teammate Jack Riewoldt captaining the Rampage in the AFLX competition on Friday, February 22, the Tigers skipper told Melbourne radio station SEN he wouldn't take part in the modified format of the game.

"I'm not (playing AFLX). I've had a little bit of a managed pre-season, so I've opted just to continue training at the footy club," Cotchin said.

"I know there are quite a few Tigers who have put their hand up. Obviously, Jack being one of the captains, there's a bit of excitement about."

Since 2011, Cotchin has not played fewer than 20 games in a year.

He finished seventh in the 2018 club best and fairest.
