Brisbane Lions will take a powerful team into Sunday’s clash against the GWS Giants at Brighton Homes Arena.

The Lions have named ruck Oscar McInerney to make his return from injury among five changes, with Tom Doedee, Ty Gallop, Deven Robertson and Darcy Gardiner also included for the clash with the third-placed Giants.

Making matters even more difficult for the Giants, in-form forward Nathan Wardius will miss with a leg issue while Harry Rowston returns to the AFL team.

Hawthorn Category B rookie Jaime Uhr-Henry will play his first game in brown and gold when the Box Hill Hawks travel to Barry Plant Park to take on Coburg.

The former basketballer joined the Hawks late last year and has played six matches with East Ringwood in the Eastern Football Netball League this season as he develops his craft.

He will be joined in Box Hill’s line up by Finn Maginness and Jack Scrimshaw, while Henry Hustwaite has earned a deserved AFL call-up and Calsher Dear has been managed.

Melbourne father-son prospect Kalani White will don the red and blue when the Casey Demons take on Essendon in the Saturday night Seven Network broadcast match at ETU Stadium.

The 200cm son of former Melbourne star ruck Jeff, who is also tied to the Gold Coast Suns Academy, was part of the 2025 Marsh AFL National Academy.

He is one of four inclusions for the Demons, alongside returning AFL-listed trio Harry Sharp, Matt Jefferson and Jai Culley.

Essendon will also unveil a potential draft prospect, with NGA member Adam Sweid named for his first VFL game after lining up for Vic Metro in its Marsh AFL National Championships loss to South Australia last Sunday.

The Bombers have also included midfield duo Ben Hobbs and Dylan Shiel among six changes, while Mid-Season Draft selections Lachlan Blackiston and Archie May have been named to make their AFL debut.

Ball magnet Riley Garcia will play his first competitive game for the year when Footscray makes the trip to Frankston for an enticing Friday night match-up at Kinetic Stadium.

Garcia hasn’t played since hurting his knee in a pre-season practice match and returns to a Bulldogs’ line-up that will also feature AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft selection Michael Sellwood and returning AFL pair Ryan Gardner and Anthony Scott.

The Dolphins have named Lachlan Riley for his first game of 2025 after featuring in 44 matches across the past three seasons.

North Melbourne has also named a Mid-Season Rookie signing for its home clash with Port Melbourne on Saturday afternoon.

Cooper Trembath will play his first game since being promoted to the Kangaroos’ AFL list. He last played in Round 7, when he booted three goals in the loss to Brisbane prior to being drafted.

Jackson Archer also returns for the Kangaroos following a hamstring injury, while Kallan Dawson and Will Dawson have been recalled to the AFL team.

The Borough will be sparked by the return of fan-favourite Anthony Anastasio, who has been named for his first game this year after making a speedy recovery from a knee injury. Versatile tall Luca Alessio also comes back in for the must-win game.

Sandringham has bolstered its line-up as it prepares to take on second-placed Southport at RSEA Park, where it will be looking to cause a repeat of last year’s upset of the Sharks.

Young talls Max Heath and Alex Dodson make timely returns to take on star Southport ruck Brayden Crossley, while fellow AFL-listed quartet Jack Carroll, Darcy Wilson, Liam O’Connell and Hugh Boxshall also come in for the Zebras.

The Sharks regain Jackson Edwards for his first game since the Round 7 draw against Port Melbourne following a hip complaint, but will be without Zach Molloy who has suffered another concussion.

Werribee has made five changes as it looks to return to the winners’ list in its home game against Geelong at Melbourne Avalon Airport Oval.

Premiership duo Hudson Garoni and Angus Hicks headline the inclusions, while Daly Andrews will play his first game since the Round 19 loss to Southport last year. It’s not all good news for the reigning premiers though, with Frank Johnson Medal winner Louis Pinnuck to miss with a minor ankle issue.

The Cats will be bolstered by the addition of key trio Oli Henry, Ted Clohesy and Nathan Kreuger, although Cam Guthrie’s rotten luck with injury has continued and he will miss after leaving the field with a calf complaint early in last week’s win over the Gold Coast Suns.

The Northern Bullants will be without skipper Liam Mackie for Sunday's home clash with Carlton at Genis Steel Oval. Mackie has succumbed to a back issue, with the Bullants handing a club debut to Pakenham forward Luke Ryan, who played one VFL game for Sandringham last year.

Carlton has regained forward Will White among three changes.
