The Smithy’s VFL teams for Round 18.
Collingwood has named a powerful side to take on Frankston in the Seven Network broadcast game at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night.
Jordan De Goey and Bobby Hill will make their long-awaited return to action, alongside AFL premiership teammates Mason Cox and Billy Frampton.
Fin Macrae also comes in for his first game since suffering a shoulder in the Round 4 defeat against the Brisbane Lions, while father-son prospect Tom McGuane has been named for his club debut.
Frankston has received a welcome boost, with key duo Darby Hipwell and Tyson Milne returning from injury layoffs. Hipwell has averaged 26 disposals a game this year but has played just once since Round 9, while Milne's most recent game was the Round 10 win over Sandringham.
Draft prospect Willem Duursma will follow in his brother Zane's footsteps and play his first VFL game with the Casey Demons when they host Sandringham at Casey Fields.
The 18-year-old, who claimed Vic Country's MVP at the Marsh AFL National Championships, is a top-five prospect in this year's draft and will take the same route his older brother Zane did during his draft year in 2023 by lining up for the Demons at VFL level.
Melbourne father-son prospect Kalani White will play his second VFL game of the season, while Matt Jefferson, Harry Sharp and Koltyn Tholstrup also return.
Six members of Sandringham's victorious team in Round 16 have been elevated to St Kilda's AFL team, however the Zebras have been able to include ruck duo Harry Boyd and Max Heath, along with Liam Henry.
Premiership duo Jay Dahlhaus and Cooper Whyte come back into Werribee's line-up for the clash of the Tigers against Richmond at Melbourne Avalon Airport Oval.
The visitors have included young forward Harry Armstrong and Joel Garner to replace promoted pair Noah Balta and Steely Green, while Oli Hayes-Brown and Kaleb Smith are both injured.
Top draft prospect Zeke Uwland will play his first game of the 2025 season in the VFL QClash when the Gold Coast Suns host the Brisbane Lions at People First Stadium.
Uwland played five VFL games for the Suns last year and starred in the 2024 Marsh AFL Futures Match on the MCG prior to the AFL Grand Final but has been sidelined for the first half of 2025 with a back injury.
He is joined in the Suns' line-up by David Swallow, Jed Walter and Ben Jepson, as well as fellow Suns Academy members Koby Coulson, Cooper Collins and Jonah Harris.
The Lions have also included an Academy star, with Daniel Annable named for his third VFL game of the season alongside Bruce Reville and James Tunstill, although in-form utility Conor McKenna has been promoted and Ty Gallop will miss with concussion following a knock early in last week's loss to Footscray.
2024 Fothergill-Round-Mitchell Medal winner Sam Davidson will play his first VFL game for Footscray after being omitted from the senior side, having played 17 of a possible 18 AFL matches for the Western Bulldogs this season.
Davidson will be joined by fellow AFL-listers Liam Jones, James Harmes, Artie Jones and Josh Dolan for the trip to the NEC Hangar to take on Essendon.
The Bombers regain young ruck Vigo Visentini but are set to be without Saad El-Hawli after he was recalled to the AFL team following a blistering three-goal performance in last week's loss to the GWS Giants.
GWS Giants regain club leading goal kicker Max Gruzewski for their clash with cross-town rival Sydney at ENGIE Stadium on Friday afternoon. Gruzewski has booted 37 goals 13 VFL appearances this year and headlines four changes for the Giants, who will be pushing to cement their place in the top-four.
To do so, they'll need to overcome a bolstered Swans side who will have improved levels of confidence following last week's come-from-behind win over North Melbourne.
Veteran midfield Taylor Adams makes his return from a hamstring injury, while Riley Bice and Peter Ladhams return from the AFL team.
Swans Academy trio Lachlan Carmichael, Noah Chamberlain and Harry Kyle have also been named for their VFL debut, with Carmichael this week named in the U18 Boys All-Australian team after claiming the Allies' MVP award at the Marsh AFL National Championships.
Eddie Ford and Will Phillips return for North Melbourne's must-win clash with Geelong at Arden Street Oval to provide cover for Zane Duursma, Robert Hansen Jnr and Finnbar Maley, who have been called up to the AFL team.
The Cats will be bolstered by the inclusion of George Stevens, Mitch Knevitt and Oli Wiltshire, while U18 Boys All Australian Jesse Mellor will make his VFL debut. A quad injury will sideline Nathan Kreuger.
Gold Coast Suns premiership speedster Hewago Oea will finally make his debut for Southport having been sidelined by injury throughout the opening four months of the season.
However it's not all good news for the Sharks ahead of their big clash with Williamstown at Fankhauser Reserve, with representative wingman Jacob Heron set to miss the remainder of the season after sustaining an ACL injury in the early stages of the Round 16 win over Richmond.
Cam Polson is unavailable for the Seagulls' trip north, although Tom Mundy returns.
Meanwhile, the Northern Bullants and Coburg have each made three changes for the Battle of Bell Street at Genis Steel Oval on Sunday, with former St Kilda forward Matthew Allison among the outs for the Lions.
Teams for Werribee vs Richmond, Frankston vs Collingwood and Casey Demons vs Sandringham will be announced from 5:00pm.
BROADCAST AND STREAMING: All matches in the 2025 Smithy’s VFL season will be live streamed free via the AFL website, AFL Live Official App and VFL App. The Seven Network will broadcast a match live and free on 7mate in Victoria and 7plus Sport nationally every Saturday night. This week’s broadcast match will be Frankston vs Collingwood.
