The veteran utility had treatment in the second term and returned to the field, but came off for good in the third quarter and iced up the injury in the third term and took no further part.

Griffen wasn't the Giants' only injury concern. Defender Jeremy Finlayson (ankle), Phil Davis (hip) and Daniel Lloyd (cut face) were also ailing, but still playing, at Spotless Stadium.

The Giants have a long injury list already, with Aidan Corr (groin), Matt De Boer (hamstring), Brett Deledio (calf), Toby Greene (hamstring), Tim Mohr (ankle), Josh Kelly (concussion) and Sam Reid (hamstring) - among others - already ruled out of the clash against Sydney.
