ST KILDA ruck coach Adam Skrobalak will scale back at the Saints after taking on the position of head coach at returning VFL club Frankston for the next two years.

He will face the unusual situation of coaching against his St Kilda charges when Frankston and Sandringham face off next year.

Skrobalak worked with the ruckmen and midfielders in a full-time role at the Saints in 2017 and while his hours will vary depending on the time of year, he expects to work at least four days a week during the 2018 season.

Frankston had a one-year hiatus from the VFL after losing its licence at the end of 2016.

Skrobalak will not attend the club's final training session the day before a game and will likely miss a review day.

However, he told AFL.com.au the work he did would not change.

"The actual role I play will be exactly the same," Skrobalak said.

Skrobalak had a match-day role at the Saints this year but if there is a clash with Frankston, the Dolphins will take priority.

With level three accreditation, Skrobalak hopes to become a line coach one day, but his immediate focus is on building the Frankston side from scratch.

"This is a really good stepping stone towards that but in looking at that, there's definitely plenty of work to do here at the moment, so I won't be looking too far ahead," Skrobalak said.
