PORT Adelaide has parted ways with small forward Sam Gray, but the experienced goalsneak is expected to continue his AFL career as a delisted free agent.

Gray, 27, kicked 83 goals in 96 games for the Power, with 20 of those coming in 20 senior appearances this year.

However, he wasn't certain to command a regular spot in the side next season with youngsters Zak Butters, Kane Farrell, Jake Patmore, Tobin Cox and Boyd Woodcock able to fill that role.

While Gray was unable to find a new home during the NAB AFL Trade Period, his manager Peter Rohde told AFL.com.au that there had been some interest for his services.

"We're hopeful and expecting he'd find his way to another club," Rohde said.

Port Adelaide's general manager of football Chris Davies said Gray had made a strong contribution to the club since earning his way on to the list as a mature-age rookie in 2013.

"Sam has been a great contributor to the Port Adelaide Football Club, having started at under-17 level from his home in Cleve on the Eyre Peninsula, progressing to win a SANFL Best and Fairest for the club before being drafted onto the club’s AFL list and then making his way into our team," Davies said.

"Throughout that time, he has shown his versatility and willingness to play in multiple positions on the ground, in order to help the team.

"There is no doubt that he has developed a lot of friendships over his journey and has been a popular member of the playing group and we wish him all the very best for his future."
