AFL congratulates Mark Blicavs ahead of his 300th game

THE AFL wishes to congratulate Geelong Cats' Mark Blicavs ahead of his 300th AFL game on Friday.

A member of the 2022 Geelong Cats’ premiership side, Blicavs is set to become the 111th player in VFL/AFL history to reach 300 games and now the eighth Cats player to do so, behind Tom Hawkins, Joel Selwood, Corey Enright, Ian Nankervis, Jimmy Bartel, Mitch Duncan and John Newman.

Blicavs, who made his debut in Round 1, 2013 after being selected with pick No. 54 in the 2012 AFL Draft, is just the second player drafted as a rookie to reach 300 career games, alongside Luke Breust.  

The AFL's Historian has compiled a list of key numbers and achievements across Blicavs career:

The 111th player to play 300 career games.

When he debuted in 2013 there were 67 players in the 300 game club.

• Pick 54 in the 2012 draft
• Debuted in 2013 Round 1 vs Hawthorn, on Easter Monday, going on to play 22 games in his debut season.
• The second player drafted as a rookie, alongside Luke Breust, to reach 300 career games.
• Premiership player in 2022, also played in the 2020 and 2025 Grand Finals.
• Named on the interchange in the 2022 All Australian team, has been named in the extended squad on 3 other occasions (2018, 2019 and 2020)
• Two time Carji Greeves Medal winner (2015 and 2018), another two podium finishes (3rd in 2020 and 2022)
• Blicavs becomes the first person to play 300 games in the number 46.  46 will now be the highest jumper number to play 300 games (prev #44 – Justin Madden and Corey Enright)
• Has missed just 18 games on his way to 300.  His longest consecutive game streak is 83 games between 2017 and 2021.  Has missed four consecutive games on two occasions (2017 and in 2023), every other time he has missed is just for one game.
• 2023 is the only one of his 14 seasons where he didn’t play in more wins than losses.  That year he played in nine wins, nine losses and a draw.
• 2023 (19) is also the only season he has played fewer than 20 games in a season.
• His entire career has been played under Chris Scott.  Just the second coach/player pairing to feature in 300 games - Jock McHale/Gordon Coventry (306) the other
• At 13 years and 16 days, he will be the second quickest of the 111 players to 300 games.  Adam Goodes achieved the feat in 12 years and 172 days.  The current second fastest is Mark Ricciuto, 13 years and 82 days
• The 77th player to reach 300 games as a one club player.
• The eighth person to play 300 games for Geelong joining Sam Newman, Ian Nankervis, Corey Enright, Jimmy Bartel, Joel Selwood, Tom Hawkins & Mitch Duncan.
  Only Hawthorn (9 players) have had more 300 gamers than the Cats.
• Mark has played in 11 finals campaigns in his 13 completed seasons.  29 Finals, the equal ninth most in VFL/AFL history.  
• Only Joel Selwood (30), Harry Taylor (31) and Shaun Burgoyne (31) have played in more finals in their first 300 games.
