ST KILDA has destroyed a struggling West Coast by 101 points for its biggest win in 10 years.

The Saints kicked eight unanswered final-quarter goals, ravaging last year's wooden spooners 22.11 (143) to 5.12 (42) at Marvel Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

It was St Kilda's highest score in a game since Ross Lyon returned in 2023 for his second stint as coach.

Lyon's men equalled the club's largest winning margin against the Eagles from 21 years ago, with the victory their biggest since they smashed Essendon by 110 points in 2015.

Jack Higgins kicked five goals as St Kilda - the biggest players in last year's trade period - improved their 2026 record to 3-4 ahead of a clash with Carlton on Saturday night.

St Kilda was the beneficiary of a baffling call from the ARC midway through the second quarter when play was abruptly halted more than a minute after a behind call, with the umpire taking the ball back more than 80m to give Rowan Marshall a shot at goal.

Apart from a brief run of play early in the third quarter, West Coast was blown away by the Saints, as emerging youngster Hugo Garcia (32 possessions, two goals) starred in a breakout performance.

Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera (34 possessions) was typically influential, despite being followed around early in the match by West Coast's prized No.1 draft pick Willem Duursma.

Higgins boosted his goal tally in the last two weeks to eight, while Liam Ryan slotted three majors in his first game against his former club since joining St Kilda last October.

West Coast has been convincingly beaten in all four games since their rousing upset of Port Adelaide in round three.

Premiership veteran Elliot Yeo took a strong contested mark in the second quarter, but quickly missing from a snap 10m out proved to be a momentum crusher for the young Eagles.

Confusion reigns after a late call to review
One of the more bizarre moments came in the second quarter at Marvel Stadium. Rowan Marshall marked a wayward Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera shot on goal right on the goal line which was initially ruled to have crossed for a behind. Play continued for 55 seconds before the ARC intervened, overturning the decision and awarding Marshall the mark amid growing confusion. Whether he controlled the mark before it went over the line looked to be inconclusive at best, and commentators were scathing of the delay, labelling it "farcical" and "embarrassing". Marshall converted, sparking a run of four consecutive goals as St Kilda seized control of the game.

Duursma starts the game in an unfamiliar role
Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera and tags go hand in hand these days, but it won't be too often he'll have a No.1 pick come to him to do the job. Last year's top selection, Willem Duursma, has largely spent his debut season patrolling the wing but he was handed a run-with assignment on the Saints playmaker in the opening quarter at Marvel Stadium. While the tag was eased after the first break, the pair went stride for stride for the first 30 minutes of the game - Wanganeen-Milera (10 disposals, one clearance, 173m gained) to Duursma's (eight touches, one clearance, 204m gained) in the first quarter. Not a bad crack at a very different role for the emerging star.
