Tasmania created history with its first VFLW win, while Port Melbourne, Western Bulldogs and Geelong all climbed back into the top half of the ladder with impressive triumphs.

Port Melbourne picked up its first win since Round 3 after getting past Carlton by 19 points at IKON Park. It was hard to split the sides in the opening half, with scores tied at quarter time and the Borough only holding a narrow five-point half time advantage despite a three-goal quarter. The third term would prove to the difference maker with the visitors kicking two goals to nil to take a 19-point lead into the final term which they maintained in the finish. Eloise Ashley-Cooper was influential in the middle with 21 disposals and five clearances, with teammate Mia Caffry just as impressive with 18 disposals, 12 tackles and five intercepts. Hannah Scott had an outstanding game despite the Blues’ defeat, with the 20-year-old recording a game-high 36 touches as well as seven tackles, six clearances and five rebound 50s.

Collingwood’s unbeaten start to the season continued, with the Magpies soaring back to the top of the ladder following a comfortable 53-point win over Essendon at Windy Hill. Setting the tone with a five-goal to nil opening half, the Pies had all the answers and produced an inside 50 differential of 36 on their way to a fourth score of 60+ points from five matches this season. After a goalless outing last week, Amelia Peck wasted no time returning to the scoresheet and finished with an equal season-high four goals, along with laying three tackles. The Magpies’ only other multiple goalkicker was Dom Carbone, who put in another best on ground performance with 25 disposals, six clearances and two goals. The Bombers were led by Ash Melnikas who amassed 14 disposals and led her side in tackles (12) and clearances (five).

The Western Bulldogs jumped inside the top six with their most impressive performance of the season to date, defeating the Box Hill Hawks by 16 points at Mission Whitten Oval. It was a perfects start to the game for the Bulldogs who had all six opening quarter scoring shots to lead by 15 points before the Hawks improved in the second term to reduce the margin to five points by the main break. The away side had opportunities throughout the second half and reduced the margin to single figures in both the third and final terms, but the Bulldogs found a way to keep responding and registered the final three scoring shots of the match to prevail. Jemima Wrigley was excellent for the hosts with 26 touches, nine intercept possessions and seven inside 50s whilst Kayley Kavanagh led the way for Box Hill with 28 disposals, eight clearances and seven tackles.

Geelong produced consecutive victories for the first time this season after a 25-point win over Darebin at Deakin University. The Cats dominated possession and booted three goals to nil in the opening half. And although the Falcons would end the match with more clearances and more inside 50s, they were unable to convert their chances on goal, whilst the home side booted two final quarter majors to secure the four points and move to sixth position on the ladder. Annie Lee played well for her 24 disposals and nine marks (two contested), with teammate Mel Staunton producing a team-high seven clearances. But it was Steph O’Kane who was arguably the most influential for Geelong with three goals from four scoring sos. Alyssa Mifsud was a standout for the Falcons with 22 touches, nine clearances and six tackles.

A fourth-straight win has propelled Williamstown to second on the VFLW ladder, this time defeating Casey Demons by 42 points at DSV Stadium. Scoring was hard to come by in the initial stages of the match but once it started, it was all went the Seagulls’ way. They created a 22-point half time advantage which decreased to 15 points by the final change after the Demons got some momentum kicking with the windy conditions, before the hosts stormed home with a four-goal to nil final term. The Seagulls had six individual goal kickers, including the in-form Emily Eaves who had a team-high 18 disposals as well as six tackles and five inside 50s, while Bella Smith finished with 17 touches and a game-high seven clearances. Lillian Snow was kept busy in defence for Casey and finished with 23 touches and 10 intercepts.

History was made at Wilson Storage Trevor Barker Beach Oval where Tasmania recorded its first ever VFLW win, defeating Sandringham by 25 points. The Devils were the only side to find the big sticks across the opening three terms and led by 23 points at the final break. The Zebras didn’t have lack of opportunity in front of goal but was only able to register six behinds to their name by three quarter time. Despite hitting the scoreboard in the last, the home side were still no match for the Devils, who recorded their second-highest score of the season on their way to a famous victory. Dearne Krushka led the scoring with two majors while also laying four of her five tackles inside 50. Others to perform for the visitors included Angelica Clark (19 disposals, nine clearances) and Claire Ransom (23 disposals, eight intercepts). whilst Sunday Hollingsworth and Charlotte Taylor combined for 24 tackles for Sandringham.
