GOLD Coast veteran Jarrod Witts has signed a fresh two-year deal keeping him at the Suns.

Witts, who has been in and out of the senior side this year, was set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

He could have walked to a rival club for free, but has instead recommitted to the Suns.

It comes as the ruck market heats up around the competition, with AFL.com.au reporting on Thursday that Richmond has offered Greater Western Sydney ruck Kieren Briggs a four-year deal.

Witts has played just 12 AFL games this season as young ruck Ned Moyle has taken the No.1 ruck mantle from him.

Drafted by Collingwood way back in 2011, Witts has played a total of 217 career games.

"Jarrod has been a tremendous servant of our football club for the past decade and it's fantastic to see that tenure extend," Suns list boss Kall Burns said.

"He has been not only a mentor for his fellow ruckmen, but a role model for every player who has played alongside Jarrod throughout his time on the Gold Coast."
