IN A scrappy affair, a trio of Saints stood out above the rest.

Veteran Brad Hill notched up 41 disposals in a stunning individual performance in his side's comfortable 49-point win over Richmond at the MCG on Saturday afternoon.

In the former Hawk and Docker's 299th game, Hill had 710m gained and 10 score involvements and was awarded the Ian Stewart Medal for his best on ground efforts.

The 14.10 (94) to 6.9 (45) win keeps the Saints' slim wildcard chances alive with one game remaining in the home and away season. St Kilda has to win next week against Gold Coast, as well as hope Carlton loses its final two games, in order to sneak into 10th spot.

Alongside Hill, Mitch Owens was excellent up forward kicking a career-best five goals. He took seven marks, three of which were contested, playing as the focal point for the Saints heading inside 50.

The final of the trio was Max Hall, who set a new personal best with 40 disposals.

The win soured a day of celebrations for the Tigers with two key premiership heroes - Nathan Broad and Dion Prestia - playing their final game for the club.

It was also Tom Lynch's 250th game, but it won't be one he will remember fondly, the spearhead forward having a quiet day finishing with six disposals and a goal.

St Kilda defenders Callum Wilkie and Jack Silvagni were dominant, Silvagni collecting 20 disposals and seven intercept possessions in game No.150 to continue his outstanding form since moving across from Carlton at the end of last season.

Young Saints defender Alix Tauru copped a knock to his quad in the second term but despite limping at times, played out the remainder of the game.

Richmond fans weren't overly impressed with the free kick count, cheering every time a Tiger was awarded a penalty, St Kilda finishing the match with 10 more frees than its counterparts.

After kicking just four points in the third term while St Kilda added four goals, Richmond saved some face in the final quarter, levelling with the Saints in kicking three goals apiece.

It was an emotional day for Richmond fans who on Saturday afternoon said farewell to three-time premiership heroes Nathan Broad and Dion Prestia. Despite having a game remaining in the home-and-away season, the pair chose to finish a week early in front of their home crowd at the MCG. The duo received cheers from the Tigers faithful all afternoon, Prestia finishing the match with a team-high 27 disposals and Nathan Broad went forward in the last five minutes of the game in an attempt to hit the scoreboard.
