FREMANTLE star Murphy Reid is in doubt for Saturday's clash against Carlton, with coach Justin Longmuir declaring the Dockers will otherwise field their best available team before utilising their week off before finals.

Reid, who played 45 consecutive games after being drafted, missed Friday night's win against Adelaide after a painful knock to the groin region but trained with the main group initially on Tuesday before completing a long running block.

Captain Alex Pearce was also in action after pulling up well from a knock to the knee against the Crows, while ruck Sean Darcy joined teammates and will push for selection after being cleared of a calf injury in the WAFL.

Leading goalkicker Jye Amiss left the track late in Tuesday's session during full ground match simulation, but early indications were that the spearhead was all good after being assessed.

Longmuir said Reid was recovering, but a second match on the sidelines was the more likely outcome this week in a scenario that would give the rising star a four-week break between his most recent match and the Dockers' home qualifying final.

"He'll train fully today and we'll see how he goes. He's still probably unlikely for this week, but we'll give him an opportunity," Longmuir said on Tuesday.

In positive news for Fremantle, scan results for Darcy cleared the ruckman of injury this week, keeping the big man's hopes of playing in September alive.

The 28-year-old took part in some match scenario training at the Dockers' Cockburn base on Tuesday, with his availability important to the club's ruck depth this September.

"We'll see how much he gets through today, but it couldn't have been a much better scan," Longmuir said.

"He was pretty frustrated. But he was a lot happier once he got a positive scan. I think it was his first positive scan, he said.

"So it's a good sign, and hopefully he can pick it up today and train Thursday and put his hand up for selection."

Longmuir said the Dockers did not feel the need to manage any of the 10 players who have played every game this season, with that list including gun forwards Josh Treacy and Jye Amiss, superstar ruck Luke Jackson, and All-Australians Jordan Clark and Andrew Brayshaw.

The coach said Fremantle had earned the right to a week off during the wildcard matches and would utilise that break, with two weeks off in a row not seen as an ideal finals preparation for some players.

"They'll all play," Longmuir said when asked if he would manage any players who had played full seasons.

"We've got a week off next week, so that's the beauty of where we are in the season and where we've placed ourselves.

"It is a balance. We don't necessarily think that two weeks off would suit many of our players.

"We've been able to monitor game time within games at times through the back half of the season, and there's no real flags in terms of management needs with injuries.

"If there is, we'll listen to the docs and weigh that up. Those discussions haven't really happened yet, but we'll play our best side."

Key defender Oscar McDonald has forced his way into the Dockers' best team through the past three weeks, with Longmuir pleased with elements of the taller backline Fremantle selected against the Crows.

Half-back Judd McVee's return to the team will be determined at selection later this week, with the coach highlighting there were some ground-level issues in defence against the Crows.

"I imagine we'd pick a team this week with the structure that we'll go into the finals with, but I'm not set on that," Longmuir said.

"There's lots of little things that can change, and I'm not wedded to going with three talls [in the first final] if that's the way we go this week.

"But it's probably a sign of what we think's ahead with the team we pick this week."
