PORT Adelaide is poised for a massive boost with gun forward Mitch Georgiades on the verge of a contract extension with the club.

Georgiades has been the subject of rival interest and speculation on his future ahead of his free agency season next year, but AFL.com.au can reveal the star goalkicker is set to extend his deal at the Power until the end of 2029.

The vital 24-year-old was already signed to the club until the end of 2027, when he was due to reach free agency.

However, the Power are close to locking him into an early extension after discussions in recent weeks that will see him signed for two more years through to his 10th season at the club, when he will become an unrestricted free agent.

The major fillip for Port, and coach Josh Carr, is expected to be announced in coming days.

The move to lock in Georgiades ahead of his free agency year is a brilliant result as the club prepares to lose superstar midfielder Zak Butters as he gets set for a move back to Victoria.

Georgiades had continued to be linked to a return to Western Australia, while Victorian clubs were also assessing him earlier in the season as a target ahead of his free agency year, However, the impending commitment shuts down that discussion.

The 2019 first-round pick has become the Power's spearhead over the past three years, kicking 44 goals in 2024, a career-best 58 last year and 46 from 20 games this season. He has kicked 213 goals in 112 games with the club since being a top-20 pick at the 2019 draft intake.

His housemate Butters is set to depart Alberton Oval at the end of the year and exercise his free agency rights, with Geelong, Richmond, the Western Bulldogs and Collingwood all having aggressively pursued him, with a decision expected shortly.

Port will finish its season on Sunday against Essendon at Marvel Stadium.
