HARLEY Reid will miss the first two games of the 2027 season after failing to overturn his ban at the AFL Tribunal on Wednesday.

The Eagles star was suspended for a dangerous tackle on Jai Newcombe when he slung the Hawthorn midfielder into the ground during the loss to the Hawks at Optus Stadium on Sunday.

Early in the final quarter, Reid grabbed Newcombe by the back of his jumper, slinging him into the ground and seeing the Hawk hit his head.

The Match Review Officer charged Reid with rough conduct, grading the incident as careless conduct, high impact and high contact, leading to the two-game suspension.

However, the Eagles argued that the incident should be downgraded to medium impact, which would have reduced the ban to one game, but were unsuccessful.
