FREMANTLE star Luke Jackson has taken the lead in the race for the Gary Ayres Medal after a 10-vote game in the semi-final win over Geelong.

Jackson, who picked up one vote in the qualifying final loss to Hawthorn, got 10 votes from the Dockers' win last Friday night, with teammate Shai Bolton and Cats forward Ollie Henry getting six votes each.

Brisbane swept the voting in its huge win over Adelaide, with Zac Bailey leading the way with 10 votes and Will Ashcroft - last year's Gary Ayres Medal winner - picking up eight votes.

The Gary Ayres Award is presented in recognition of the player who has been adjudged the best through the finals series, as voted by the coaches. Grand Final votes receive a 1.5 times loading.

The AFLCA determined last week that voting would not include votes from the two wildcard finals to ensure voting remained consistent with the format of previous seasons.

Following the success of the wildcard finals this year, the AFLCA said its advisory board will review the voting process to decide whether any permanent changes need to be made to the award voting system for 2027.
