WEST Coast expects Harley Reid to be good to go for the start of its pre-season after the best-and-fairest winner underwent shoulder surgery.

Reid picked up his first John Worsfold Medal after an excellent season for the Eagles, with the club's 2023 No.1 draft pick elevating his game to a new level.

Following the award win, the 21-year-old had a shoulder clean-up for an issue that he carried at the end of the season. 

The Eagles confirmed to AFL.com.au that Reid will be ready to go for the start of their pre-season campaign in November. 

Reid was a clear winner of the Eagles' best and fairest ahead of second-placed Jake Waterman and third-placed Tim Kelly. 

The 62-gamer played every one of the Eagles' games this season and averaged 25 disposals, while also kicking 15 goals.

He told AFL.com.au in an exclusive interview earlier this season that his off-season training program ahead of the 2026 season had held him in good stead, with the likes of teammates Reuben Ginbey and Jack Graham pushing him to improve his training levels. 

"With people like that, they want you to get better and they want to see you succeed. To come back early and to have them send me a message when I probably didn't really want to get out of bed, like 'Come on, where are you? Let's go'. You need those people and I really respect that," Reid said in May.

"It was just about flipping that mindset so that every chance you get to do these things is a chance to get better. It's the mentality that these are the next steps to hopefully one day be the best footballer in the AFL.

"That's the end goal. I want to set little things to be able to perform consistently to hopefully get there one day. I love going up against the big dogs that currently get that listed to their name. There's an edge in me to be like 'Let's go, I want to show I'm better’.

"I don't really like talking too much about myself, but obviously at the end of the day I want people to be able to look at me and be [saying] that for sure."

Reid will miss the first two games of next season after being banned for a dangerous tackle in the loss to Hawthorn in the final round.
