TASMANIA has confirmed the signings of its first AFL players ahead of the Devils' entry into the competition in 2028.

The Devils unveiled seven under-17 players, and a Tasmanian local product who is eligible for this year's draft, at an event in Hobart on Tuesday night.

The eight players will be a key part of Ken Hinkley's side in the club's first seasons in the AFL.

As reported by AFL.com.au earlier this month, the seven under-17s are: East Perth tall Axel Walsh, Sandringham Dragons pair Angus Brown and Riley Stratford, Western Jets duo Jake Miller and Griffin Barker, Calder Cannons tall Nate Jenkins and Eastern Ranges midfielder Baxter Sruk.

The club has also signed Tasmanian native Hugh McCallum, who is eligible for this year's draft. McCallum, a lightly framed midfielder, will miss most of the 2027 season but has joined the Devils under the list provision that allows the club to sign Tasmanian players from the 2026 draft class. He is the brother of former Port Adelaide-listed defender Tom. 

The seven under-17 players have each signed a four-year deal through until the end of 2030, which will be the new club's third season in the AFL. Their contracts will see them play for the Devils in the VFL in 2027 before three seasons in the AFL.

As part of their list concessions, the Devils are able to sign a total of 12 under-17s players across 2026 and 2027 before they reach their respective draft years.

It is the same rules that saw Greater Western Sydney sign Jeremy Cameron, Adam Treloar and Dylan Shiel outside of the draft in the Giants' early years.

As AFL.com.au revealed in February, the seven Devils players will be paid the wage of an early draftee in 2027 despite not officially being able to play at AFL level. They will then join on a three-year AFL deal for 2028-2030, which is standard for top-20 draft picks.

"Tonight is a very special evening, and it's a proud moment to welcome our first group of Tasmania Devils players to our state," Hinkley said.   

"I am excited to be working with such a talented group of young footballers, all of whom have tremendous skill sets and AFL attributes already. 

"It will be great to share this moment with their families.

"The build of our list is a significant focus for the club and tonight is another great step forward as we move toward 2028."
