GEELONG has won its seventh consecutive match in 2026 and is charging towards a top-four spot after a 34-point win over Richmond.
The Cats flexed their muscles after the main break and dominated territory, keeping the Tigers scoreless in the second half to cruise to a 7.12 (54) to 3.2 (20) victory.
TIGERS v CATS Full match coverage and stats
Mick Stinear's side has not lost a game since the round one horror show against North Melbourne, asserting itself as a serious premiership contender this year.
The Cats dominated the Tigers in all key metrics across the night, including disposals (+82), inside 50s (+23) and marks (+18).
As has often been the case this year, Geelong's powerful midfield pairing of Georgie Prespakis and Nina Morrison ran rampant at Ikon Park, clearly a class above Richmond's young midfield unit.
Prespakis, who is currently third in the competition for coaches' votes, was able to work through some attention to star once more, finding plenty of the footy.
The gun Cat was a force to be reckoned with around the contest, dominating at the coalface with a game-high 28 disposals, eight clearances and eight score involvements.
Morrison was equally as impressive, working hard both ways to finish with 26 disposals, seven tackles and a goal.
The Tigers just didn't have the answers for the star duo, especially in the absence of premier midfielder Monique Conti, who is dealing with an Achilles injury.
Jarrad Donders' side was able to restrict the Cats' ball movement, turning the contest into a real arm wrestle early, but Geelong's class shone through from the third stanza onwards.
Geelong has become one of the best teams to watch when on song in 2026, its ability to chain possession and run and carry such a highlight this year.
Midfielder Mikayla Bowen continued her strong season with 20 disposals and seven tackles, while the likes of Aishling Moloney (19 disposals) and Chantal Mason (21 disposals) were also impressive in the front half.
Exciting forward Chloe Scheer was the most damaging in attack, booting a game-high three goals to take her tally to 18 for the year, the equal-most in the competition.
Richmond onballer Ellie McKenzie tried hard all evening with 20 touches and six tackles, while young midfielder Sierra Grieves (21 disposals) continues to improve as well.
Richmond's quest for finals becomes that little bit harder, sitting in 10th spot as of Friday night with a win-loss record of 4-4.
Which Cat do you tag?
What do all of the good sides in the competition right now have in common? They've all got a plethora of midfield riches. For North Melbourne it's Jasmine Garner, Ash Riddell and Eilish Sheerin. Melbourne has Kate Hore, Tyla Hanks and Liv Purcell. Geelong's trio of Georgie Prespakis, Nina Morrison and Mikayla Bowen is in that same conversation. The star Cats complement each other so well and are one of the best onball brigades in the competition. The Tigers put some time into Prespakis early, but ultimately the Cats just had too many weapons in that part of the ground.
Young Tiger shows plenty of promise
All the headlines this year at Tigerland have involved Olivia Wolmarans, but don't forget about youngster Fina Dethlefsen. Dethlefsen, who played with Wolmarans at Subiaco before moving from Perth, is a rare talent. The young Tiger's physical attributes make her such a promising player. She's powerful, has a great endurance base and has a fantastic aerial ability. Her leg speed means she can break the lines as well with the ball in hand. She's only a handful of games into her AFLW career, but Richmond coach Jarrad Donders has a unique talent on his hands with a promising future.
Up next
The Cats will look to continue their winning streak when they host GWS at GMHBA Stadium next Saturday, while the Tigers return to Ikon Park to host the Adelaide Crows that same day.
