TWO-TIME Richmond premiership player Jayden Short's proposed move to Collingwood is set to come to nothing on Deadline Day.

AFL.com.au's Josh Gabelich is reporting the two clubs met earlier on Wednesday, where the possibility of a trade was ruled out.

"We have made the call. We knew what Richmond wanted and what Collingwood was prepared to give up and there was too big of a divide. So we came to the realisation that having explored the situation that it won't work for either club," Short's manager Anthony McConville told News Corp.

"Jayden is a best-and-fairest winner and premiership player and he's in the leadership group. He's got two years left on his contract and we didn't dismiss anything. We gave it enough air to see if it would work and looked at all the options available."

Short played in the Tigers' 2019 and 2020 premiership sides among a total of 211 games in yellow and black after being selected as a rookie in 2014.

His run off half-back and long-range kicking has proved invaluable in many Richmond wins, and was something the Pies had shown an interest in.

The 30-year-old Short is contracted at Richmond until the end of 2027 and is set to stay at the Tigers.
