Later this month, AFL.com.au will launch Superdraft, a three-part documentary that goes inside the 2001 trade and draft period with the likes of Hodge, Luke Ball, Grant Thomas, Paul Connors, Dermott Brereton, Chris Connolly and more.
To mark 25 years since the Superdraft, AFL.com.au has put together a retrospective top 20 players from that draft - listed 1-20 below - showcasing their achievements.
Five of the 20 claimed the Brownlow Medal - Ablett (2009 and 2013), Judd (2004 and 2010), Jimmy Bartel (2007), Sam Mitchell (2012) and Dane Swan (2011) - while the group as a whole combined for a remarkable 1710 Brownlow Medal votes.
An incredible 14 of the 20 earned All-Australian blazers, with 41 in total in the group.
That included Ablett (eight), Judd (six), Dane Swan (five), Hodge, Mitchell, Nick Dal Santo and Steve Johnson (three), Bartel, Leigh Montagna and Brian Lake (two) and Luke Ball, James Kelly, Paul Medhurst and Campbell Brown (one).
And 14 players won premierships, with 32 flags in total.
The group played 5091 AFL games, kicked 3529 goals and won 23 club best and fairests, 16 of those coming via Ablett (six), Judd (five) and Mitchell (five).
Five players also delivered on the biggest stage, winning the Norm Smith Medal through Hodge (2008 and 2014), Judd (2005), Bartel (2011), Johnson (2007) and Lake (2013).
