SYDNEY forward Tom Papley has returned a positive preliminary drug test after being pulled over by police on Monday.
The 30-year-old was pulled over by New South Wales Police for a roadside licence check, which led to a court attendance notice and random drug test.
"Papley was issued with a court attendance notice for driving with a suspended licence due to non-payment of a parking fine," a Swans statement read.
"During the roadside stop, Papley completed a random drug test which returned a positive preliminary test indication.
"A second sample was taken for analysis. The results from the second test are expected to take at least four weeks.
"Papley immediately advised the club regarding this matter and the club subsequently informed the AFL."
Papley played 20 games for Sydney this year, kicking 33 goals as the Swans made a preliminary final.
Sydney endured a tumultuous finish to the season after five players – Isaac Heeney, Chad Warner, Nick Blakey, James Jordon and Riley Bice – were suspended by the club for breaching behavioural standards.
Those AFL-endorsed club bans were separate from a police investigation into an alleged sexual assault at the Pullman Hotel, which is ongoing.
No charges have been laid. AFL.com.au is not suggesting any wrongdoing on the part of the suspended players.
