Williams will stand for election at the March 4 annual general meeting, with current Commissioners Linda Dessau and Richard Goyder re-nominating and standing unopposed.

Williams joins the Commission at a time when his extensive media experience will be an asset leading into the game's next set of media rights negotiations.

Lynch offered his resignation from the Commission in March last year after moving overseas when he was appointed chief financial officer of Rio Tinto.

However the League did not accept his resignation and
at the time Fitzpatrick said Lynch, who is now based in London, was a very valuable member of the Commission.

The pair decided to review the role 12 months down the track.
