NUMBER one draft pick Tom Boyd is set to play his first game for Greater Western Sydney in Friday's practice game against Adelaide in Blacktown.

Boyd, who kicked three goals for the Giants' reserves side last Saturday, headlines a number of inclusions across the final two days of practice matches, including Richmond's Jack Riewoldt, Hawthorn's Grant Birchall and Brisbane Lions' Jonathan Brown.

GWS recalled midfielders Lachie Whitfield and Tom Scully, while mature-age recruits Josh Hunt and Shane Mumford were left out.

Adelaide, meanwhile, has recalled key forward Tom Lynch for his first appearance of the pre-season following major foot surgery.

The Crows left Brad Crouch out of their 27-man squad but named younger brother Matt for his third consecutive pre-season game.

Forward recruit Eddie Betts returns after missing the Crows' second NAB Challenge match in a strong line-up that also includes Geelong premiership forward James Podsiadly.

Alongside star goalkicker Riewoldt, Richmond has named half-forward Chris Knights for his first pre-season game in its squad of 25 to face the Bombers at Punt Road Oval on Friday.

Former Brisbane Lions forward Todd Banfield and mature-age recruit Nathan Gordon have also been named and could be given chances to push their claims for round one selection.

Essendon has named midfielders David Myers and Jake Melksham for their first pre-season games, with first-year rookie Patrick Ambrose also named in the Bombers' 27-man squad.

Michael Hurley has been left out but key position player Jake Carlisle returns.

Carlton has left out a host of stars for its final practice match against the Western Bulldogs on Friday afternoon at Visy Park.

Andrew Walker, Bryce Gibbs and Matthew Kreuzer were all notable absentees from the Blues' 27-man squad, while Chris Yarran and Josh Bootsma will also miss.

Andrew Carrazzo (calf), Lachie Henderson (groin) and Chris Judd (Achilles) remain sidelined because of injury.

Returning for the Blues are Kane Lucas, Robbie Warnock, Dennis Armfield and Zac Tuohy.

The clash marks the third consecutive pre-season games for Troy Menzel, Dylan Buckley, Patrick Cripps, Andrew McInnes, Tom Bell and Jaryd Cachia.

The Bulldogs named a 26-man squad, including mature-age recruit Matthew Fuller for his first pre-season game.

Fuller, who played an important role in Norwood's SANFL premiership last season, was recruited with pick No.42 in the 2013 NAB AFL Draft.

Prized draft pick Marcus Bontempelli, who was selected at No.4 overall, was not selected during the Bulldogs' pre-season campaign.

Geelong has left Jimmy Bartel out of its 27-man squad, naming rookies Jackson Sheringham and Nick Bourke for its clash against North Melbourne at Simonds Stadium on Friday night.

The injury-hit Cats have recalled Andrew Mackie, Matthew Stokes and Corey Enright after the trio missed the club's second NAB Challenge match.

North Melbourne has left out Majak Daw for the clash with the Cats but has recalled veteran Michael Firrito for the game at Simonds Stadium. Daniel Currie will again stake his claim for a ruck spot alongside Todd Goldstein.

Hawthorn has named a strong line up for its clash with Melbourne at Casey Fields on Saturday afternoon, headlined by Luke Hodge, Sam Mitchell and Jarryd Roughead.

Grant Birchall will play his first game for the year, Paul Puopolo returns and Brad Sewell has been named for his second pre-season game. Ben Stratton has been named after playing a half in a VFL practice match on the weekend.

Brian Lake (suspended until round four) and Cyril Rioli (suspended round one) won't play, as won't Shaun Burgoyne or Taylor Duryea.

Melbourne, as expected, will be without Mitch Clark, Chris Dawes, Mark Jamar, Col Garland, Luke Tapscott and Max Gawn.

Jack Viney will play his first game for the year while Jesse Hogan, Jack Watts, Cam Pederson, James Frawley and Jay Kennedy-Harris will notch up their second.

A large number of Port Adelaide players will get their second run for the pre-season in the Power's clash with St Kilda at Alberton.

After missing the first NAB Challenge game against Adelaide, Travis Boak, Brad Ebert, Hamish Hartlett, Robbie Gray, John Butcher, Kane Cornes, Chad Wingard, Matthew Lobbe and Justin Westhoff have been named.

Jackson Trengove (knee) and Alipate Carlile (quad) remain sidelined while Jay Schulz is out with the mid-foot sprain he suffered against Essendon last week.

St Kilda will get a second game into Nick Riewoldt, James Gwilt, Adam Schneider, Sean Dempster, Rhys Stanley and Dylan Roberton while Lenny Hayes has been named despite suggestions he injured his hamstring last week.

Draftees Jack Billings and Luke Dunstan will play their third pre-season games while rookies Darren Minchington and Eli Templeton get chances to push for elevation.

Jonathan Brown will play his first game for the Brisbane Lions this year after getting through a half of an intra-club match last week.

Brown will play against the Sydney Swans at Burpengary, with a host of teammates to play their second game including Daniel Merrett, Matthew Leuenberger, Jed Adcock, Daniel Rich, Pearce Hanley and Claye Beams.

The Sydney Swans have also picked a strong side with Lance Franklin to play his second game for the club after an uneventful debut last week against West Coast.

Kieren Jack, Jarrad McVeigh, Josh Kennedy, Ben McGlynn, Ted Richards and Tom Mitchell have all been named after missing the second NAB Challenge game against the Eagles.

Other new recruits Jeremy Laidler and Tom Derickx have also been named, along with draftee Toby Nankervis.
