MELBOURNE forward Dean Kent has withdrawn from Sunday's clash with Gold Coast after injuring a calf at training.

He has been replaced in the squad by fellow small forward Shannon Byrnes, who was omitted from the Demons' line-up that defeated Carlton in round four.

Byrnes joins Jack Fitzpatrick and Jimmy Toumpas as an emergency for the game, leaving Neville Jetta's inclusion at the expense of Kent as the Demons' only change.

Kent, 20, has played 17 games for the Demons since being drafted at No.48 in the 2012 NAB AFL Draft and has kicked 11 goals. Melbourne's round four win over Carlton was just the second of his short career.
