PATRICK Ryder is settling in well at Port Adelaide but wants to become a more dominant figure as he becomes comfortable in the Power line up.

In his first five games for Port, Ryder is already averaging more goals per game than he did in any of his nine seasons at Essendon, after booting three against Adelaide in Showdown XXXVIII. It took his total to seven goals.

It was his best game for the Power and he combined well with ruckman Matthew Lobbe, who managed 38 hit-outs as he works his way back into form after a quad strain.

Ryder said that ideally he'd spend 70 per cent of his game time in Port's forward line as he and Lobbe iron out their partnership.

"[The combination with Lobbe] is a work in progress at the moment…he did pretty well on the weekend in the ruck and I was able to hit the scoreboard, so it worked pretty well," Ryder said.

"As long as I'm doing the right stuff up forward and really having an impact up there, it showed on the weekend, that's the way we want it to be.

"I feel like I can have a lot more impact on the game…I've set the bar high for myself so I'll be looking to impact the game as much as I can."

The pair will be crucial players on Sunday when the Power take on West Coast and ruckman Nick Naitanui at Adelaide Oval. Naitanui is ranked as the League's best bigman according to Official AFL Player Ratings and has averaged 29 hit-outs a game so far this year.

Between the two of them, Lobbe and Ryder have the physicality and athleticism to match the flying Eagle, and Ryder said their planning to ground him had already begun.

"We've already started, we'll just sit down, we've already spoken about a couple of things that we're going to do," he said.

"When he's up and about, which he is at the moment, he's pretty hard to stop – everyone has their weaknesses though.

"We'll try and find what that is in 'Nic Nat' and really attack him.

"If he's able to jump at everything he likes then he's going to step on everyone's heads."

Ollie Wines will miss Sunday's clash, but the club said he could be a surprise inclusion the following week against the Brisbane Lions after a faster than expected recovery from a wrist injury. Wines appeared in fearsome touch at training on Tuesday with his arm in a guard, crashing into a tackling bag while restrained by a bungee rope.
