The AFL wishes to advise the Match Review Panel has reviewed the matches played in Round 16 of the 2016 Toyota AFL premiership season. The following charges were laid: 

Charges Laid:

Brayden Maynard, Collingwood, has been charged with striking Steve Johnson, GWS Giants, during the fourth quarter of the Round 16 match between Collingwood and the GWS Giants, played at Spotless Stadium on Saturday July 9, 2016. 

In summary, he can accept a $1000 sanction with an early plea.

Based on the available video evidence and a medical report from the GWS

Giants Football Club, the incident was assessed as intentional conduct with low impact to the body. The incident was classified as a $1500 sanction. The player has no applicable record which impacts the penalty. An early plea enables the player to accept a $1000 sanction.

Tom Rockliff, Brisbane Lions, has been charged with striking Aaron Hall, Gold Coast Suns, during the first quarter of the Round 16 match between the Brisbane Lions and the Gold Coast Suns, played at Metricon Stadium on Saturday July 9, 2016.

In summary, he can accept a $1000 sanction with an early plea. 

Based on the available video evidence and a medical report from the Gold Coast Suns Football Club, the incident was assessed as intentional conduct with low impact to the body. The incident was classified as a $1500 sanction. The player has no applicable record which impacts the penalty. An early plea enables the player to accept a $1000 sanction. 

Lachie Weller, Fremantle, has been charged with bumping / making forceful contact from front-on against Jayden Hunt, Melbourne, during the third quarter of the Round 16 match between Fremantle and Melbourne, played at TIO Stadium on Saturday July 9, 2016.

In summary, he can accept a $1000 sanction with an early plea.

Based on the available video evidence and a medical report from the Melbourne Football Club, the incident was assessed as careless conduct with low impact to the head. The incident was classified as a $1500 sanction. The player has no applicable record which impacts the penalty. An early plea enables the player to accept a $1000 sanction. 

Levi Casboult, Carlton, has been charged with striking Kyle Hartigan, Adelaide Crows, during the second quarter of the Round 16 match between Carlton and the Adelaide Crows, played at the MCG on Sunday July 10, 2016.

In summary, he can accept a one-match sanction with an early plea. 

Based on the available video evidence and a medical report from the Adelaide Crows Football Club, the incident was assessed as intentional conduct with medium impact to the body. The incident was classified as a two-match sanction. The player has no applicable record which impacts the penalty. An early plea enables the player to accept a one-match sanction. 

Sharrod Wellingham, West Coast, has been charged with misconduct in that he pushed / bumped Drew Petrie, North Melbourne, into the fence during the first quarter of the Round 16 match between West Coast and North Melbourne, played at Domain Stadium on Sunday July 10, 2016. 

In summary, he can accept a $1000 sanction with an early plea. 

A misconduct offence was classified as a fixed $1500 sanction. The player has no applicable record which impacts the penalty. An early plea enables the player to accept a $1000 sanction. 

Scott Lycett, West Coast, has been charged with striking Jack Ziebell, North Melbourne, during the second quarter of the Round 16 match between West Coast and North Melbourne, played at Domain Stadium on Sunday July 10, 2016.

Patrick McGinnity, West Coast, has been charged with misconduct in that he pushed / bumped Sam Gibson, North Melbourne, into the fence during the second quarter of the Round 16 match between West Coast and North Melbourne, played at Domain Stadium on Sunday July 10, 2016. 

In summary, he can accept a $1000 sanction with an early plea.

A misconduct offence was classified as a fixed $1500 sanction. The player has no applicable record which impacts the penalty. An early plea enables the player to accept a $1000 sanction. 

Other incidents assessed
The match day report laid against the Gold Coast Suns’ Nick Malceski for engaging in rough conduct against the Brisbane Lions’ Daniel Rich from the first quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. Brisbane’s Rueben William had possession of the ball and handballed in front of his teammate Rich. Rich was moving to the ball with Malceski coming towards him from an angle, to make a contest for the ball. Malceski had his hands down in a bid to pick up the ball while Rich was also leaning forwards towards the ball. Rich took possession and contact was made between the two players. It was the view of the panel that Malceski was contesting the ball and did not have an alternative way to contest the ball. No further action was taken.

The match day report laid against St Kilda’s Seb Ross for striking Essendon’s Anthony McDonld-Tipungwuti from the second quarter of Sunday’s match was assessed. It was the view of the panel there was insufficient forceful high contact made for a report to be laid. No further action was taken.
