FREMANTLE big man Tanner Smith has become the second Docker to be delisted ahead of a busy draft and trade period for the club.

Smith, 22, is set to undergo serious hamstring surgery after damaging the tendon badly while playing for Peel Thunder last week.

The Dockers confirmed that he had been delisted on Friday following just four games over four seasons on the list.

The 196cm utility was drafted with pick No.36 in 2012. He made his AFL debut in round four, 2013, but did not play again until round 23, 2015, due a series of injuries including a serious shoulder issue.

He was delisted at the end of the 2014 season and redrafted as a rookie. Some excellent form in the WAFL saw him play two games this season but he injured his hamstring against Port Adelaide in round 13 and then injured it again in his second game back in the WAFL last week.

The injury is understood to be very serious and will require a long rehabilitation following surgery in Melbourne.

Smith joins Irish rookie Sean Hurley as the only delistings at Fremantle so far although the futures of a number of others remain in doubt.

But the Dockers have 18 players listed to represent Peel Thunder in a WAFL elimination final on Sunday against East Perth. The Dockers will not make any further list announcements until Peel has completed its finals campaign, which may not finish until after the WAFL Grand Final on September 25.

Meanwhile, the Dockers have announced that they have begun a search for a newly created role as high performance manager of coaching.

The Dockers completed a review of their coaching structure in August.

Experienced assistant coach Peter Sumich vacated his role as head of development before the end of the season but the rest of the coaching staff are set to remain for next year but under a restructured model.

The Dockers are searching for a high performance manager to educate and develop the club's coaching staff.

They have thrown the role open to applicants from both inside and outside the AFL system and the person appointed will report directly to the Dockers' general manager of football operations Chris Bond.

The Dockers have lost some coaching experience in the last two seasons in the form of Sumich, Brett Kirk and Simon Lloyd.
