GEELONG has surprisingly secured North Melbourne forward Aaron Black in exchange for pick 92 on the final day of the NAB AFL Trade Period on Thursday.

Black, 25, had been linked to Fremantle, but interest from the Dockers waned after they turned their attention to Cats forward Shane Kersten.

Black played 50 games for the Kangaroos since he was selected with the 25th pick in the 2009 NAB AFL Draft.

But the 192cm attacking target spent this year in the VFL after falling down the pecking order.

Black was contracted for 2017 with the Kangaroos.

The Cats will give Black the chance to fill the void left by Kersten – who has been traded to the Dockers – and Nathan Vardy's move to West Coast.
