COLLINGWOOD president Eddie McGuire has denied the club is in disarray despite losing its fourth football boss in four years.

Graeme 'Gubby' Allan resigned as the club's director of football after being suspended for 12 months for bringing the game into disrepute in regard to his involvement in the Lachie Whitfield saga.

Allan replaced Neil Balme, who knocked back a separate role as the director of coaching at the Pies to join Richmond, in the high-profile role at the end of last season.

Allan and Balme have followed Rodney Eade and Geoff Walsh out the door in recent seasons.

"The story they're (the media) all trying to rev up is Collingwood and disarray and I'm (McGuire) under pressure, etc," McGuire said on Triple M.

"It is not happening. It is a made-up attack on the football club and me, and it's as simple as that.

"Everything is under control and things are fine."

McGuire also moved to clear up the situation around Balme's departure, with many suggesting he was demoted and hence pushed out the door.

"It is straightforward. We needed to make changes at our club. We weren't happy with the way some of the things were being done and we decided to change up the whole situation," McGuire said.

"It was a board decision based on the recommendation from the chief executive officer (Gary Pert).

"That (the Allan investigation) came out of left field. We have got contingency plans.

"I would rather 'Gubby' was there because we appointed him. In the time he has been the director of football at Collingwood, he's been fantastic. That is nothing against anything with Neil Balme.

"I, me, club, board, chief executive wanted Neil Balme to go into a specific role (at Collingwood) we believe he was absolutely tailor-made for."

Football operations manager Marcus Wagner will assume the head of football role in the interim, with the Magpies expected to announce a full-time replacement within the next fortnight.

McGuire said Wagner would be a suitable candidate on a full-time basis.

"We will make a decision on whether or not we make an appointment in the next couple of weeks," McGuire said.

"We know exactly what is going to happen.

"Marcus Wagner has worked for our football club and looks after all our football operations. He is an up and coming star."

Collingwood's first-to-fourth-year players kicked off pre-season training in Falls Creek this week.
