MELBOURNE has locked in explosive key defender Sam Frost for two more seasons until the end of 2019.

The 24-year-old rejected overtures from several clubs to stick with the Demons, which secured the former Greater Western Sydney defender in the 2014 NAB AFL Trade Period.

Frost told melbournefc.com.au he did consider his options but, in the end, he could not imagine himself leaving the Demons.

"I’m more of a gut feel [person] more than anything else and there was no way I could’ve gone," Frost said.

Frost played 16 games this season after a delayed start due to a toe injury and brought up his 50th AFL game in round 14 against West Coast, but was omitted after round 20 and did not play the final three games.

His demotion was a surprise to many with his pace and athleticism giving the Demons strong rebound out of defence, but Frost accepted it was the right decision.

"It's probably still a bit raw – the way the season ended and the way my season ended," Frost said.

"I knew I was out of form, and it was valid and fair, but the frustrating thing was my bad form and the few bad games in the seniors – I wasn't able to turn it around in the VFL. A lot of players go through form slumps and it’s never always smooth sailing."

He said the Demons' loss in the final round to Collingwood was devastating for all involved as it cost the club the chance of playing finals for the first time since 2006.

"We let ourselves down this year. We thought we were good enough. We beat some of the teams that made the finals, so that gives us a lot of excitement about the next two years and where the club is at," he said.
