YOUNG Carlton midfielder David Cuningham has signed a new two-year deal to keep him at the club until at least the end of 2019.

Cuningham was nominated for the NAB Rising Star Award in round 12 following the Blues' stunning one-point upset against Greater Western Sydney at Etihad Stadium.

The 20-year-old collected 19 disposals and booted two goals that day.

Football manager Andrew McKay told carltonfc.com.au Cuningham had impressed with his attitude.

"David has made great progress in his second year at Carlton and he's an exciting prospect for the future of the club," McKay said.

"He's demonstrated a strong work ethic and is committed to developing in his midfield role.

"We're delighted to see his career continue at the club for a further two years."

Cuningham was drafted at No.23 in 2015 and has played a total of 11 career matches.
