GUN FREMANTLE wingman Brad Hill refused to offer an explanation for why he didn't run the club's 2km time trial last month.

"I just didn't do it. I don't know, I don’t have a reason for it, but I'll do it definitely when we get back from the Christmas break," Hill told reporters on Wednesday

Then he added, tongue-in-cheek: "Think they just wanted a new winner, so they gave me a rest".

Hill watched on from the sidelines on November 22 as Tommy Sheridan took out the race ahead of Cam Sutcliffe.

Having won both time trials he ran last pre-season, Hill was a notable absentee that day.

The 24-year-old denied having had an operation and has been in full training.

"No surgery for me. I'm feeling pretty good and I'm into full training, so other than that, I'm feeling healthy," Hill said.

Hill took out his maiden best and fairest in his first season after five years at Hawthorn.

Despite beating Lachie Neale and Nat Fyfe to claim the Doig Medal, Hill saw areas he could improve.

"Towards the end of the season, I felt like I faded away," Hill said.

"Sometimes when I was a bit fatigued, my kicking would probably drop off a little bit.

"There's obviously focuses I want to work on, there's contested (footy) and getting a bit stronger with my tackling."
